***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I am ready to scream. I set 41 eggs in my homicidal LG incubator last month. Today is day 24 and I'm going to give up. Not. One. Pip. Not a single one. Temps were steady the whole time. I have two glass lab thermometers in there, one wet bulb, dry bulb. Humidity spiked like crazy around day 11 because we got a lot of rain and I couldn't control it at all, even with the AC on. That's all I can figure that would have killed them. I candled on day 22 and there was one chick alive and moving, but it never pipped. If I'd had two I would have helped them out, but I'm not going to raise a single chick with no buddies. I totally want to throw this thing into Coyote Creek. :(
We tried to hatch 40 some odd eggs and all we got were these.... it was the worst turnout ever... there was one more barred rock that hatched but it had a deformed leg and died..

They are adorable. I am farming out eggs all over the place. Seriously. I have two broodies on eggs, I have eggs in an incubator in Dallas. I'm trying like crazy to build up this year because the last two years have been disappointing as anything. For once I want to end up with more birds than I started with.

So you said they where sending you some extras what did you get?
Well it said they usually put extras in small orders. I guess with the weather being mild they decided three was enough. I am definitely ok with that though. I really didn't need more chicks. I just wanted to replace my two NN chicks that got out. So far I am thrilled with Cackle. They kept me updated on shipping. The birds seemed packed well and look great.

aint nothin pretty about naked necks! love em, but they are next to the ugliest thing on earth! {watch it kass}
ok, the chicks arent so bad, kinda funny lookin and all. but the grown birds,

I never thought they would grow on me but I got one out of an assortment I split with mamapoppybee and she didn't want it so I got it. She is starting to grow on me but I am still keeping her name as Fugly. Kids asked me why I told em it's cause she is Flippin Ugly!! lol

Why is a new chick in quarantine? Is she sick somehow?
Nope but she's brand new.. just from the feed store.. and i dont wanna put her in with the baby chicks that i hatched from an auction.. and she,s not old enough to go out with the rest of the chickens i have in the coop.. soo she,s stuck being a loner for a while...
