***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I must admit I am truly looking forward to this upcoming show season.. It will be a real eye opener for many on a few varities for one in particular I just have 3 cock birds that need to be force molted and some cockrells that will likely get the same treatment. I wish I could transfer a pic from my phone to here but will figure that one out later. I got to go see one of my cockrells from last year that I loaned out for breeding, I really should have kept him here I think he is better than the two I'm using.

Oh, and the Guineas are hatching. We put 9 Guinea eggs under a broody Marans hen the other day because I needed both incubators to fit my Ameraucana and Araucana eggs.
Christina, didn't you say they hatch fast once they start? I'm going to snatch them out from under the hen as they hatch and stick them in a brooder.
Um....Tony...? Still want Guineas? lol
Yeah, but I'm sure someone else would like them as well. As much as I wanted to come down to NEOCS, It looks more like I won't be able to make it.

If I did make it there, it would be later in the day. How late in the day (or evening) will things still be happening there?

You can send the pic from your phone to your email and save it on your computer and then upload it here if need be.

Hi everyone!!

Last weekend I moved my three Ameraucana's outside into the goat pen. These are the one's I said were not looking so great and too skinny. Also all of the other chickens were beating them up pretty bad. Well I put up a dog pen in there to give them their own space and they have a playhouse for shelter. These three are in heaven! They look great too! Still won't let me get near them but I think some vitamin d and bugs were what they needed. So I am excited about that.

Dexter my black pullet, first to hatch, seems to be the one in charge. Carlos and Piper always run to her for shelter when I come in there and if I'm moving one it freaks out until they see her or she comes running when they cry.

I didn't really plan on keeping Carlos since I have a male already but I don't know that I can separate them sine they are so attached to each other. But I don't know that they didn't come from the same parents so I don't think I would want them breeding?? And hopefully I did sex these guys right when they were first hatched. lol.

I just finished some of the ground work on my new coop. It backs up to a shed that is off the ground about 6 inches so I dug out a trench and put some hardware cloth attached to the bottom of the shed and going into the trench, covered it and put cinder blocks on top. Then filled in any small cracks with dirt. I got a pretty tight fit on the blocks to the shed. I don't want any critters trying to get in from that angle.

Went to Lowes and had a huge blonde moment.

Decided since I didn't have a truck, I have an SUV, but only the back glass will open, the hatch broke, I thought I would get some plywood and just have them cut it in half so I could transport it home and get started on the coop. NOPE! Wouldn't fit, but didn't realize it until I got it out to the vehicle.

I had to call someone to come pick up the wood for me.

Sure hope I get off to a better start tomorrow.

Was good to see a few BYCers at the auction tonight. And thanks to scoots oldest DD brought home some pretty birds. I was beat & knew I would have a million things to do at home so I left before any birds even by the table. Taron really wanted those blue orphs, hope they brought a good amount.
Tomorrow is all day roofing for the whole family! Plus DH hired 4 teenage boys for the day. I know it is going to bed such a fun & exciting family day. Suppose to be almost 100!! What a perfect day to tear off & replace a roof.
My silkie hen still hasnt had any eggs hatch, guinea eggs go on lock down tomorrow, so she may get some keets to raise. When we checked on her tonight, dh went to reach under her & jumped back saying she scares him! That tiny sweet silkie girl scares a grown man.
Oh while I was gone, the weeds in the melon patch grew a ft tall & lots of the squash plants are dead-- but of course no one knows what happened. I am thinking the wind broke the plants. My poor DH did try his best. He was taking pictures of stuff texting me asking if it was time to be picked yet! Wish he would just ask the kids, they could show him what to do.
Mitzi-- the guineas should hatch speedy fast under ideal conditions. Hope you get a good hatch from them (even though you don't desire any keets they are still fun)
Traci I will ask my girls about those eggs, they were darker brown (not maran brown but darker than most my RIR) & round I think.
Going to get a few hours of sleep.... Goodnight all!

I showed up really late to Mary's this morning but still got to meet up with Greybear and Michael D. It was fun guys! Sorry I had to just rush around with my hair on fire. One day I'll get everyone up and around at a decent hour and we can just mosey.
Youreally must have been late. I think it was noon or a little after before I got away!

Sorry to miss Newcastle tonight, they moved mom to a regular room today and think she may have had a stroke. 2 different Nerologist came in and saw her, she is having vision issues so not sure how that is going to turn out when it is time for her to go home. She can't stay by herself like she is now. Got home tonight around 5 and got birds moved around, moved guineas to a Aframe coop from their brooder. I sure hope they do good in it. They were getting to crowded in their brooder. Then moved chicks from one of the inside brooders to an outside brooder. Not sure hubby is going to get the additional Aframe tractor done before fireworks start so I may have to get creative in moving birds until July 5th gets here. Need to sell some of the chicks hatching.

Also we have a BYC'er that could use our prayers. I will not give out her name but they lost their home, barn and workshop in a fire this last week. They lost everything. I know they said their insurance is being great to help them get back on their feet. But they lost all their precious animals and everything in their home. I know we can all help them get started with their birds again once they are ready but until them please remember them in your prayers.

Well off to bed, I have a kiddo heading off to church camp tomorrow afternoon and finally got him packed so I am going to get some sleep while I can, lol.
