***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Oh my gosh, I am so easily amused. We have chicken drama today. My two roosters have been getting along famously. Last night I let everyone out to range, and this morning realized that in the dark, two chickens hadn't gotten to bed with the others. So I tried to catch them, but instead of putting them in the coop, all the rest of them got out. So, I decided to just let them run and catch grasshoppers. I did some yard work and decided to sit and watch them. Well, Jamie, my LF Dominique roo decided to take a walk on the wild side, and went over and topped Ushas, my little silkie hen (Silkiniques, FTW!). Ushas is one of The Brig's ladies. The Brig, my bantam Cochin roo, was having none of that, so he walked over right in front of Jamie and topped one of HIS hens. (The little engine that could, man! I guess size DOESN'T matter!) Then the two of them squared off and glared at each other a whole bunch and then turned around and walked away with their own hens. I will go back out later, and hopefully there will be pictures. I love chicken drama. It's so much more entertaining than people drama.

Speaking of Roosters, I'm still chuckling over this passage from HIT BY A FARM by Catherine Friend.

"But one day as the chickens roamed the yard I noticed that the boys had different styles. Serge brought flowers, lit golden tapers, poured goblets of champagne. There was a quiet mounting, brief fluttering of wings. Thank you, ma'am. Much obliged. May I call on you again?

Romeo on the other hand, hid, waiting. Then, screaming,he chased the hen around the barn. Come back here, you stupid b&^%$. He grabbed the back of her head with his beak, flung her down, jumped her bones while she shrieked in distress. Wham. Bam. Feathers flew. He let her go, shook out his fine self. It was consensual, babe. Beside, you were asking for it."

"We ate Romeo."

I guess I've had too many Romeo's in the past year of owning chickens :) I got tired fast of roos.

Thanks for the laugh.

Thought I'd jump on and share a few pics from the Estate today. First off, does anyone have any idea what this plant is? I have several popping up in my fence rows.

This is some of our sorghum starting to head.

Our daughter with our year old turkey giving her a hug. She is the funniest turkey and loves to just almost crawl up in our laps and lay against us. We call them hugs.

Our bantam "Pistol Petie".

One our of white hollands.

I seem to be awash in these guys this year. Love to watch them.

One of our kittens "Atticatude" with the turkeys. Our cats never bother our birds and are often found sleeping with them or laying in their yard together. Go figure.

Gonna go eat some cheese souffle and salad now and then get ready for another fun filled night of VBS crafts. Oh joy, oh rapture.

You beat me to it Lynn. I wa going to say Catalpa too. Erinzoo....if you have Redbuds or Catalpa (12 - 18 inch long seed pods) They are prolific seeders.

Quote: When I have to do it, I try to spint feet as soon as possible. They end up getting around better with the boot and since they are growing so quickly, the chick doesn't have to wear the boot as long.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I'm new to chickens, and live in Tulsa. You all seem like a good group of folks to pry for information. Well, hope you all are having a great day.

won't be long and those Okies near Tulsa will be filling your coop!

Quote: AMEN!

Lynn here are the three that hatched. Notice the feathered legs on one white one.and here are a couple of the blue chicks from my birds.
Saw the "big toe" on the left side of the second picture and giggled thinking you have a godzilla chicken.

Welcome, I'm in north Bixby. This is a great crowd, they haven't run me off from asking stupid questions yet!
