I'm so glad your home was spared, Kimbroe. And devestated for those who have lost everything. The Cleveland County fire is still south of us but there were no huge smoke plumes in the sky like there was yesterday and the day before. The firefighters are awesome! I hope all our politicians appreciate how valuable they are to their communities.

So our fire situation is better than some but still sux. Got home this morning, Josh went to check on the property and it was smoldering along the property line. When he came back to get me to show me, we back out there to see and it was going up in flames. I had to leave. Took the kids to my SIL's to spend the night (I hope). While I was gone, apparently it just went down hill. Josh was on fire trucks to direct them to the back of the property. He called me one time and was like, "It's HUGE & spreading fast. House not gonna make it. I gotta go." A few mins later he called and said the fire dept finally arrived, they didn't get it put out, but diverted it around our house. They brought in 2 HUGE bull dozers and built a fire break around the house. Needless to say He and all the firemen are my hero's! After they fire dept left here, they went to fighting fires all around us. We had to cut several spots in our fence for bull dozers and fire trucks to get through. With all that's happened not looking good on getting our Dexter cow this month. But at we are very blessed to still have our house. All of our chickens were hiding all day until I got home. When I got home they all came running out. They seemed very relieved that at least something normal was happening.

The Mannford fire is between 10-15 miles from us, but there is lake between us unless wind shifts change the direction drastically. Was so glad to learn that all the people in Mannford, Drumright and Jennings were allowed to go back and there was no fire damage within city limits.

Our phone rang almost constantantly last nigh from friends worried about us and even one who wanted to come evacuate our flock because of smoke inhalation worries. We did have a lot of smoke, but not to that extent. Our skylights are all heavily spotted with ashes. We are so fortunate, but if a fire started in our area, we'd be in real trouble because, as some of you know firsthand, there is only one way in and one way out of our area.

I was stung or bit on the leg last night as I was gathering eggs in the dark. Last night it was uncomfortable. Today, I awoke to find a big burning bruised area half the size of my fist, with several darker dots in it. Now those dots are starting to connect. I don't remember being stung, but boy this thing sure does hurt and is getting progressively worse.

So, I'm thinking ER?

I was worried about you and I glad to hear from you this morning......I would imagine Richard is safe from the fires too?

Well before you hike to the ER for the injection they're sure to give you, take a couple Benadryl. It'll slow down the swelling considerably.

Yeah, did that. No change so far but it is still early.

Sounds like it might be a recluse bite. They aren't painful at the time of the bite, and necrose tissue at the bite and coming out from the bite. If it is that it sounds like you got quite a bit of venom, it will need to be watched for infection. Definately an ER trip.

Benadryl will help if you are having an allergic or hystamine reaction, but not for an invenomation or infection. Surely won't hurt anything, but your description sounds more like a vemon issue not an allergic issue. If it is a venom issue you will likely be put on antibiotics and monitored for infection and extent of necrosis. They can't counter act the venom, just tx the symptoms and fix the damage after the fact.
