***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I need to find some more Lav. Orps. One of my 2 pullets has just disapeared. Guess something go her while they were in their free range pen. I don't get it there is no sign of anything. I am guessing the owl that has been hanging out here. She was in with the two young lav roos and my big CW Roo and he is good with the girls he is with. So if anyone in the OKC area has some young pullets 3-5 months old I need them. Guess it is back to the hoop house for my other 3 (1 pullet and 2 roos) so that I don't loose anymore of them.

We also started a new project for the birds. We are growing fodder for them. I bought 100# of barley today and we will see how it goes. I know the birds will love it I am curious to see how it impacts the feed bill in the long run. We will see.
Sorry about your pullet. Of course it would be a girl - Murphy's Law of Chickens.

Cathie we have aviary netting over all our pens. We still free range out in the open, but only because I love watching them run & play. The net game from 3T products & was $200-$300 but well worth every penny. We started out using it over the peafowl & guinea pens, then added it over the chicken run because all the hawks & a few rouge chickens that always want to fly out when they were suppose to be penned up. The net is so easy to work with & we have never had a tear in it yet.

Hope everyone has a good time @ Newcastle. Taron is going to be at the weather festival in Norman. she went with friends last yr & loved it. Anyone looking for a free kids friendly activity it's a good one. She talked about it for days afterwards.

I am sorry you lost one of your gorgeous babies. That's really cool on the fodder. What kind of set up did you get to grow it?

I've lost 3 that way! 3 Mille Fleur hens! They will eat a little, (yoghurt, NN's recipe) but not enough.
It is so frustrating and sad.

Late morning, everyone

I'm back inside to let my hands thaw. I'm going to need a glove and boot dryer this year. Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions? Some of the dryers have fancy extras (variable heat and fan speed settings), while others proclaim they are the easiest to operate (they're either on or off).

Robin: I received a notice that my order shipped, but tracking information isn't available yet. I'll keep you posted.

Joe: Is there a sale in Coweta on the 16th? Visiting with chicken friends once a month is good for the soul: I always look forward to talking chicken.

Good morning everyone!
Have been so busy lately I haven't been able to keep up on the thread as much as I would like. I am looking for just a few pullets, maybe 2 or 3 of each, cream legbar and any really dark egg laying marans. I realize its not the best time of the year to be looking but if anyone is looking to part with some of these, I am definitely interested.
Thanks,
Lori

ok, i posted about losing birds and the suggestion was worms that wazine isn't killing- so i will instead of using safeguard paste, shift to the liquid- if it is something that simple i'll scream! but lesson learned, they said wazine only kills roundworms?

Coral- thanks for letting me know, those boys will be soooo spoiled!

Robin I use safeguard for my goats & birds. I have never seen a worm but I still treat my whole flock. Don't beat your self up, only thing you can do is change how you worm in the future. Did your little chick make it? The one you helped out of the shell?

Well, if it is that simple, i should be glad it isn't contagious!

yes the little one is a busybody! they are a lot of fun since i have a broody mama to take care of them...LOL!
