I didn't venture out but about an hour this afternoon.....Good
Grief....it's horrid out there !!!! So far, birds are all OK.....
Of course, the rest of my crew takes care of most all of that
chore. They've got me chained to the stove canning jams and
cinnamon apples, and dehydrating banana slices.

Have a good one !

Gerald just called me for an update. He said there's at least another hour to go at the Blanchard auction. He said RIRs hens are selling for $4-5 each and the few RIR roosters there are selling for $8 each. Today would have been a good day to have taken some RIR roosters to Blanchard! He also said rabbits are only selling for $1-2 each.

I am so ticked at my misters. I found new heads, but they have a way better throw than the old ones so they soak my fence and the run.... They are hooked up to the top of my run fence...well this batch. Today the hens seemed to fare well. I got the mister in the coop to not soak the daylights out of everything. It stayed about 110 in the coop. Yesterday it went all the way off my thermometer....over 120! Poor hennies. But they are hanging in there.

Did anyone see that guys post about the snake trap? I may never sleep again.

Greybears... I will take some pix here soon. They are all at the bald teenager stage... but very sweet. One of the buffs is just almost tame!

My OEGs are turning out gorgeous... I hope Teach like's his as well. They are truly beautiful... the pearls are really pretty, and I have a self blue hen that is awesome.

That would be a good idea to see what they've been getting for hens before you spend time, energy & gasoline to go to Maud & only be disappointed & have to P.O. your birds.

I'm thinking of going since they sometimes sell veggies there & Gerald's veggie garden is exploding with zucchini and cucumbers. Plus, we could always sell a few birds and eggs. I thought I migt could (accidentally) bid on a goat or two also ... but Gerald might never forgive me, I suppose.

Hey, we could all start trapping snakes like that and then save them all (alive) for Teach!

Actually, the last 2 that Gerald has hacked to pieces have been given to the guineas. Oh, they absolutely love snake bites!

Hey Hey Carla. I spent the evening with your best beau.
I couldn't get him to buy nuthin that eats just a , Well I'll let him tell you.
I bet there were over 1500 hundred birds at the auction. About 1000 of them were Rhode Island Reds from out of state.
Like you said, the roosters were selling for $8 bucks a pop. I took a Gold Salmon Marans Roo that was way bigger than any of those and he only brought $5 bucks. Go figure.
The birds I took that I thought would sell well didn't bring what I wanted but some I didn't think would bring much did pretty good.
So a pretty good night overall.
Baby chicks were brutal. Jack brought about 200 and I don't think any of them brought a dollar.
The few big laying hens there besides the RIR's did well. I know some Buff Orps brought $15 apiece. Thee were some pretty Wyandotes both standard and bantam.
This was my first time to go and I must say they really keep things moving. To have as much stuff as they did and to be done as soon as they were was good. I left at 9:20 and they were selling the last RIR's. I would guess they were done around ten.
Gerald did take my pic by his big green army chicken haulin truck.
If I had had my camera I would have taken a pic of Gerald witht he ice pack on his head.
It was a good time and I even came home with a little cash.

I forgot to say besides the Eggman, I talked to Buster and his wife SJarvis00 and her husband plus Misti and Jerry. I think that is all from our Okie board that was there.
Carla we missed you. Thanks for working overtime to keep America safe.

They tried to sell a five foot long Boa Constrictor at Blanchard tonight. I was gonna get it out of the cage and act like Alice Cooper but the sucker kept trying to bite me. The owner got it out and a woman there held it. Kinda made me feel silly.
I though about buying it but I didn't want to have to sleep with it outside, which is where I would have been staying. It didn't sell.
Teach, If you are interested, I have the guys number.

Monty, I'm so glad you had a good experience there ... other than the blistering heat. It really is a nice facility and well run by great people. I actually think this is probably the worst time of year to try to sell any poultry because of the heat. If it were 20-30 degrees cooler, the place would have been packed and prices sky high. I'll do my best to get the picture of you on the website tomorrow, before work I hope.

Before I go to work. we've got to go pick up 2 chicken coops and a chain link dog pen that we bought last week thru craigslist. Since I keep upsizing instead of downsizing, I've got to get more pens and shelters going.

Now, if only we could find a feed store sponsor/donor!!!!
