Blanchard didnt last as long as I thought it would. Lots of birds but not very much variety. We picked up a few more than we should and even some after we were finished. Carl "accidentally" bought the last set of birds. Said he wasnt trying to bid but trying to pass and let the auctioner know he wasnt bidding. I dont believe him but thats ok guess I can use some more laying hens. Came home to some bad news. I had 1 columbian wyandotte and 1 black langshan dead. Both of those breeds are some of my best birds. Dont know what happened think it was the heat.

Well Im off to go work on something Im sure needs tending to. Talk to yall later.

Hey all! Sounds like a good time was had by all at Blanchard - sorry you weren't there to supervise the bidding, Carla! I'm looking forward to seeing Gerald's big green truck.

How are your birds doing Monty?

Cleo!! I thought of you as I passed by the turnoff to Cleo Springs last weekend. I wondered if your baby was here and it sounds like she may have been on her way! Congratulations and welcome Stormi!

Greybear - good to hear that you're doing better - I know what it's like to be without A/C...not fun.

Welcome back Gracefulbantams!

HennyP - I like your new avatar - what's the kitty's name?

My pullets are all being loud and acting like they're about to lay any second, and sometimes I'll hear them singing and I'll run out to check, but so far no eggs.

Come home any time, Teach! Where is Stimpy? Has anyone heard from Don (chickensandmore)?

P&B - thanks for the notice about the eggcartons.com website - those nesting pads look awesome.

Morning all :

Spent 9 hrs out in the heat trying to make some more headway on the Condo, I must be crazy or dilerious but it wasn't that bad, I drank what seemed like gal's of water and a few Carona's for good measure. My DW froze a bunch ziplock bags of water for the knuckleheads, and they didn't know what the heck to do with them, I will stay after it for awhile until they get used to them maybe.

Monty : Glad you made it to Blanchard and was able to thin your inventory a bit, Isn't Gerald/Eggman a hoot to hang out with. I would like to see a pic of him with that cool pack on his pointy head.

Greybear : Good to see your doing better good for you.

Buster : Sounds like you had a good time at Blanchard, yes the deep summer months are pretty tough at the auctions, I try to plan my selling around the early spring when prices are higher and attendance is up.

Henny's : Good to see your spirits are up after your bender LOL, be carefull with your misters remember what we visited about on the moisture issue.

But it wasn't too bad if you're buying.

Which I did way too much of.

We got an incubator that appears to work for less than $20. I have been wanting to try my hand at it, so it is nice we are getting in cheaply in case I'm no good at it. Also bought some fertile eggs to test it out.

Also bought some of Carla's Bourbon Red poults, and these remind me why we are doing what we are doing. We are in this largely to raise food birds humanely as we can. You can always tell when an animal has been well treated, and the same when it is poorly treated, even if you don't know all that much about birds. These birds are the sweetest, calmest things you can imagine. So, hats off to Carla and her hubby for the excellent quality and dispositions of their birds and their obvious caring treatment of them. I highly recommend them.

It was great meeting so many folks from the board. I was walking through the building when I heard someone holler "Buster!" and at first couldn't figure out who here could possibly know my childhood nickname, then saw Misty and realized my Cal Berkeley t-shirt probably gave me away.

Monty, it was great seeing you there. Finally got a chance to talk to someone in a POOPS shirt. I'm used to my anonymity on the Internet, and the experience of seeing the anonymity drop was a bit surreal at first. But fun.

Wish I could have met some more of you, but maybe when the weather cools.

Mornin' everybody! Am sure it's warm enough for all today.
So far, so good here, but it's sure hard on the well pump.

Think I've finally got them talked into shutting down the
incubator the first of August....at least for a while. They
want to have 50 of these cornish on the ground before they
do....still short 17.....Why on earth did I let him go with
Al and Pepper ??????????? And, hoping to get a few more
mottled and barred cochins and call it good.

Next time we turn around, it will be time for the shows to
start. They say they're going to have 6 here in Cherokee
County.

Who all is planning to go to Tulsa State, Fayetteville and
Shawnee? I'm actually looking forward to it this year knowing
that they'll be BYC'ers there that we'll really know this
time.......LOL Guess Shawnee will be mid-December again
this year, so that would probably be a yucky time to call
a POOPS meet.....unless it's still HOT !!!

Stay cool everyone !

If you are looking for a group of enablers to help you develop a hatching addiction or a poultry auction addiction, you have come to the right place.

Hot-diggity-dog!! I started hatching in the last year and every chick is a new promise for another. I can't stop. I've got my husband working on building a 3x12 ft pin, get this, inside the house. He just started a minute ago.

The reason for it, is that I have various ages and no place to keep them seperate. But hopefully I will soon!! I tell ya, chicks have taken this chic by storm.
