So I have to tell you all how I have been played by a chicken. Not sure if you all remember me posting a couple days ago worried about my chicken who could not walk. Usually when I go in the bathroom she is just sitting pitifully in her box looking at me, so I have been working her legs, stretching them out, etc. Of course loving on her and telling her she will be right as rain soon, then she can go out with the other chickens. I then sit her on the floor where she flops around using her wings so sad like. So then I pick her up and put her back in her nice box. Well let me tell you all, it was all an act, down to the pitiful look she gave me when I put her lying butt out in the coop. I go in there yesterday and she is walking around her box, flapping her wings, picking at her food til she finally sees me and then she flops down in the box and starts shuffling around using her wings like she can not walk.

Of course Uli thought was just hilarious that I got played.

Just a warning to you all these birds may act like they are about as smart as a bag of door knobs but don't let those stupid looks fool ya, I now know how sneaky and scheming these feather butts are.

Oh and I forgot to mention, my cat is pregnant (the one with 25 toes) and is due from what I can tell to be a couple of weeks. Now her last litter she had 3 all of them had extra toes, so my guess this litter will be the same. As I am typing her kids are draped over my shoulders. Mom is very affectionate and so is her kids since they have been handled from the moment they were born. We were trying to get her fixed before she got pregnant again but she went into heat really soon after having her kittens.

We are looking for good homes for these kittens. It will be about three months before they will be ready. I am guessing she will have about 3 or 4. Her last litter she had two black males and one black calico, one of the black males has 22 toes the other two just have 20. No telling what this litter will look like since I do not know who the father is.

As a pet slave to 6 polydactyl cats I can tell you they are really unique creatures. Even more so then any other types of cats I have lived with. They are also really good around the birds and all of my polys are great hunters. I have not seen a rodent around here in months.

If you are interested let me know and we will put your name down. When they are born I will post pictures so you can all see them.

Thank you..
I'm just a homebody who enjoys the great outdoors, and most of the critters that run around in it.. I see something new most every season in the way of flora and fauna..We do have some strange bugs in this state.. And wild birds plant new flowers and things from time to time..
My chickens are just part of the family here..As I said somewhere else, I rescued most of the chickens I have had..A friend gave me 2 hens at one point, but the rest were rescues..
I do not know what one of my roosters, Franky, is..He's the one with one blind eye who showed up on top of my chicken pen asleep one day..He's large with big feet and thick legs and toes which turn in so much it's hard for him to walk. He is blue/black in feather color,,Handsome feller...
The other 3 including the injured one are half Game and half I don't know what..Their combs are all different from each other..Gofer's (the injured one) comb is the normal half moon-like and flat from side to side..Speckle's is smaller, and flops to one side making me think of a tam..Pop Top has one of those rose combs..Rose comb? Is that the right term? Two of the three brothers have a feather or two growing down by their feet..

Chickenz1 - it sounds like you are well on your way to being "addicted" to chickens. I had to laugh when you mentioned a rooster that "just appeared" on top of a chicken pen. I used to think that people were "dumping" roosters over my chain link fence because I would look up and there would be a rooster that I didn't remember seeing before. Now that I have a smaller flock, I can tell more quickly if there are any new roosters and relocate the ones that aren't of a variety I care to keep.
There is something about the homely roosters that makes you want to smile. So ugly that they are cute.

Don,
You and your family are in my prayers. Your mother didn't want you to grieve, but you will find yourself thinking "I need to tell Mom..." and feel a bittersweet moment when you realize she already knows, even though you didn't get to tell her yourself. It is hardest for those of us who are left behind to remember them.

OK, everyone wish me luck. I am setting my first eggs today. The incubators are ready, all I'm waiting for is my daughter to wake up. She is four and has been hands-on with the birds since we got them. She really wants to help. I will be setting 3 dozen chicken mutts in one incubator and 3 dozen pearl guineas in another. I really hope things go well. I'm crossing my fingers!

Kathy Brock is the 4 H leader for Wyandotte. She teaches at Fairland and does their club also. She is really an nice lady.
If you call the extention office they should be able to get a phone number for you to get a hold of her. OR we will be having a huge membership drive after the fair, sometime in September.

Good morning everyone,
I hope all is well. It is supposed to to heat up here today and hit 100. We will see. They are usually right about the the things I don't want and miss the other stuff.
Sunday night the weather guy I watched said plainly and clearly no chance of rain tonight.
Of course the thuinder and lightening woke me up at 4 a..m. and I had to dash outside to roll up the car windows.
Well I have a lot of lofty goals today. Lets see what I get done.
Everyone have a great day.
Monty
