Say Hello Gracie! So are you back with us fulltime after your whirlwind summer? Thanks fior reminding me of the Shawnee show, that was fun. Next time I will take cages and extra money.

So are you still in Durant or have you moved to Duncan?
Where in the world is:
Graceful Bantams?
(You have to sing the song)

I sent Okiechick a pm I haven't heard from her in months.
Anyway I hope you have time to stay with us this time.
What kind of chickens do you have left? Are you rebuilding your menagerie?
Monty

Will I do like talking about them and to brag just a little here I shipped some eggs to Alaska and one that hatched was a NN. We will see just how cold tolerant they are, the lady has a heated coop for winter but it stays cold for longer periods there and even in a heated enclosure it can affect the birds so we shall see.

Hey everyone! How are my fellow okies? We finally got some rain here in SW ok. The hennies are loving it! When I left for church this morning it was 68! Far cry from the 100's we have been having. I am really interested in all the auctions and shows! I want to try to get some EEs maybe. That Shawnee show last year must have been fun during that ice storm. I tell my family about the crazy weather out here, but you have to see it to reall appreciate it! My sister was visiting from Salt Lake last week and we had a storm roll in. We were in town and I could see how things were building up and I asked her to step on it getting back out to the house, I had to get the hens locked up. They were in, but the door was open and I was worried about wind. She told me she thought I was nuts, overreacting etc. By the time we drove the 8 miles to the house it was blowing 60 mph. I had shavings and plywood everywhere! I asked her if she wanted fries with her "crow"? Wouldn't live anywhere else though... well maybe easter OK. to get more thunderstorms and "green" stuff. Hope you guys are all doing good!

There is a lady on an Okie website I am a member of that had/has two Angora does for sale.

There is an "Okie" website for rabbit owners? What is the website? Now that I have New Zealands that I am breeding for meat, Dutch that I am breeding for pets and Giant Flemish that I plan to breed for show, I am interested in other rabbit lovers in Oklahoma.

Thanks,

Duncan is having a ARBA rabbit show the Aug. 29th and 30th. It starts at around 5 pm on friday and all day saturday. It's at the fairgrounds. There is another show in November too.

I went to the June show, it was fun. I got 4 lionheads. My friend got some californias there. It was pretty hot when we went, so I think maybe more breeders will show up if the weather is cooler. But there was a lot there even with it hot!!

I would say Holland Lops as they are the smallest of the lop family, or a mini rex looks more like a rabbit just down sized..

but the best for eating is New Zelands or Califorians..they both make great stir fry..

We really do all need to meet up there again! Oh, and I'm the one who didn't even have a cardboard box with me, and still managed to buy 10 birds!!

I am still in Durant most of the time. We never have found a good house over in Duncan (looking for a nice house that allows chickens!).

I haven't heard from her either

I hope she comes back to us in time for Shawnee!

I still have a trio of SS Hamburg Bantams, a quad of MF d'Uccles, a pair of BTW Japanese, 4 Blue Ameraucanas, 3 Partridge and Red Silkies (I'm hoping for a trio), 1 Spitz. girl, a pair of White Call Ducks, and 6 'big chickens'. During their time with babysitters, I had lost two Silkies, two Ameraucanas (we had to put down one of them), and my gorgeous little Spitz rooster

I'm afraid I am not going to rebuild any until spring, and I might even get rid of a breed before then.

Thanks for the information on rabbit shows!
I am planning to attend the show in Duncan on Aug 29 and 30 - and hopefully the next show there November 28 and 29. What I would really like to find is someone else in Oklahoma who breeds Flemish Giants - preferably pedigreed. I have a fawn doe and a sandy buck and would like more fawn does.

I also would like some white Flemish. I understand they are good to cross breed with the New Zealands for larger meat rabbits.

If you want a large rabbit that is good with children, the Flemish Giants have a very laid back personality (or at least most of them do

) and they are large enough that a child isn't as likely to hurt them. Think of a small cocker spaniel - that is the size of a full grown Flemish.
