That is so exciting! Do you have pictures of these prize winning poultry? I LOVE Rosecombs, and have never seen a featherlegged one.

Thanks everyone for the congrats!!

My son just turned 10. He is an only child so I guess he is pretty spoiled. However he is a really good kid, He does most of the chicken chores, feeds, waters and walks his show pig ( now that the fair is over, he'll just have to feed and water bacon and pork chop),feeds the dogs, He unloads the dishwasher ( he don't like loading it he says the yucky old food makes him sick

) Helps with the laundry, plays baseball, football and basketball and makes A's and B's. He works hard at everything he does, sometimes I thinks he puts to much pressure on himself to be perfect.

I had been working on getting the perfect pair of Black Bantam Cochins for about 2 1/2 to 3 yrs. I have also hatched out some nice babies from this pair, so I hope he does well with them. The only bad thing is they are starting to MOLT!!

Thanks everyone,
SC

Okcarla, did you come down to Blue? I wish I would have been on here sooner to tell you that it rained almost all day Tuesday, at my house.
Sorry about your losses with the Brabanter and Spitzhauben chicks. By the way, I've been meaning to tell you that out of those 6 eggs you gave me, 3 hatched completely, and two of those lived to almost be grown. I was excited, because they actually were a pair (one boy, one girl). Well, when I left them at the baby-sitters, a racoon attack left me with only the pullet. So.... I may need to plan on getting a little rooster from you next time you are down here.

firefighter1042, if you want to know where you can get a GQF 'bator locally, I am of no help. But, I do know that you can buy them online, here - https://www.gqfmfg.com/store/comersus_listItems.asp?idCategory=31

Yes/No on the pictures. I have pictures and I will download them when fair week is finally over and I can sit for a half hour to post them on a dial up connection

There are feather legged birds with rose combs, BUT his are Black Rosecombs and they are NOT feather legged. I seen how my post could be interpertuted that way.

I edited it to read more clearly.

Slightly Cracked, Thanks for the clear up. I was wondering when Black Rosecombs had been accepted with feathered legs.
lol.png
But still, Black Rosecombs are one of my favorites. And I love anything with feathered legs.

Not a problem countryroad. I was so tired when I typed that and it did read funny.

I LOVE Cochins Standard or bantam, but now that I have been trying build up my Bantam herd of big fluffy butts I need to get rid of some of my not so fluffy butts. Is there such a thing of to many Cochins?
hu.gif
If there is I think I may have reached it

So if anyone is interested in Bantam Cochins I have Birchen and Black.

I also have 3 baby Black Rosecombs, I think 2 girls and maybe 1 boy???? I may sell the adult pair that my son took to the fair if any one is interested. The hen won Reserve RCCL.

Oh I wish SO bad I could still have chickens! I want those!!

And I don't think there is such as thing as too many of any kind of chicken!

Ya know now that I think about it... I think I could keep a couple hens in my backyard. There's a lovely little shaded place to hide them, and the coop is already there. (Bun Bun stayed in it this spring.) Too bad my hubby's a cop.

Come on guys, give me suggestions to talk him into it!

1.)Hens don't crow,

2.) they lay delicious eggs for breakfast,

3.)and are excellent therapy.
Therapy you ask? Take you lawn chair pull it up to the pen and sit and bask in thier beauty and enjoy the peaceful way chickens go through life.

These guys are so tiny right now that the rabbit hutch I have them in is like a mansion. I take feed sacks and open them up and lay it over the wire and the put shavings on the sacks so thier little feet don't get messed up.
They have half the cage and still have room to jump and try to fly, soooo cute!
