Good point & well said, I too prefer to let my chickens be chickens, they get used to you caring for their needs and if they need to be handled for any reason they remain calm. What more could you want.

Good late morning everyone!
Uli and I went to take a nap last night (1 hour or so) ended up sleeping for 14 hours. Guess we were both more exhausted then we knew.
Reading all your post on roosters and I must say I do not seem to have any trouble with my roos and as you all know I have all kinds. It might be that I have handled almost all of them from the time they were really young if not from the time they were born. I have found when one starts getting ornery I just grab him up and love up on him infront of all the other chickens a few times. It seems to work wonders. First I think there is a bit of a humiliation factor, but also they know I am not going to hurt them even though I could.
All my chickens follow me around when I go outside, mainly they are hoping I will give them some extra food. I have one barred rock/americana rooster who does the sexy rooster dance for me which is a bit weird but it is better then the alternative, I guess.
Now I had a tom that was crazy aggressive which I had to get rid of because he though I was his mate. Showed him!
I just do not think I could stand having an agressive bird, think they would have to find a new home because I am the head hen around here and they all know it.
Speaking of roosters I have some cochin cockerals, and an aracana rooster who need to have a new home. Like I said they are all friendly and good to the hens.

Good morning all, my birds are still laying good, we get 4-6 eggs a day from about 10 hens and pullets, I have been busy this morning, got three loads of laundry going, washed some dishes by hand and loaded the dish washer and got it going, put peppers in salt water to soak a while, put on a pot of white beans and ham hocks in the crock pot, washed some jars and lids, got my waterbath pan ready and water hot, lids in hot water, ready to start canning peppers now, thought I'd drop yall a line, how is everyone today??? A BEAUTIFUL day outside when I went out to get jars from the shed, but I have canning to do to get stuff ready for the County Fair and the POOPS, later all, have a great day!!!! Lynn

Hens hatched 6 showgirls and 1 silkie this morning. Probably many more to come. These are in a brooder now. Mamas are 3 blues and 1 splash (all showgirls). Papa is a very nice half lavender splash. Babes are 2 blues (one has a high vaulted skull but is missing one toe), 1 splash, 1 lightish partridge (high vaulted skull), 1 splash silkie and one showgirl that could be either a lavender or a porcelain.

22 guinea eggs of several colors are due to hatch this coming week--just took the turner out and filled the additional water moats.

I've been missing tiny babes!

Good day all! Standing in the backyard earlier today with my little flock of laying pullets peacefully foraging around, I was gazing past the garden down back at my private little "park" behind my house, which I mowed yesterday. I was just thinking how beautiful it is and how lucky I am. When what to my wondering eyes does appear...a nice big healthy red fox trotting across the park.

I've had foxes back there for several years but haven't seen one this year until now. Usually a vixen raises some kits back there, but this year I have a couple of HUGE groundhogs and some rabbits, so I figured the foxes had moved on and that my clucks were relatively safe from them. So I'm hoping this one was just passing through...yeah, right.

Anyhoo - hope everyone is healthy and happy and enjoying the fantastic weather this good Sunday!

WE ARE ON THE COUNT DOWN!!!! PLEASE GET ME THE ITEM'S YOU PLAN TO BRING SO I CAN WORK OUT WHAT MIGHT NEED TO BE ADDED. IF YOUR NAME ISN'T ON THE LIST AND YOU HAVE SENT ME A PM, PLEASE SEND ANOTHER TO SO I CAN HAVE AN ACCURATE LIST!!

Hi everyone as you know the fall P.O.O.P.S will be Sept. 26th. It has been decided that we would have a Pot luck lunch & dinner! We are looking for foods that are just as good cold as they are hot.

We will have limited outlets for crock pots if that is something you might be interested in. We will also have limited space to keep things cool between lunch and dinner, so if you bring something that needs to be kept cool make arrangements for that. For some folks that travel you could possibly have your ingredients made and put them together on site. Keep in mind the number of people that will be attending when making your dish or dishes.

We will also need paper goods, silverware & drinks. I have a couple of large igloo coolers that can be used for tea & kool-aid. If you have an one we could use let me know. I will need volunteers for set up before each meal along with volunteers for clean up after.

Please contact (PM) myself or TJ’s Nana if you have any questions or if you need a suggestion as to what you can bring. I will keep a running list of items.

Volunteer’s to help set up & clean up (will set times later

What is"butt dust"
What, you ask, is "Butt Dust"? Read on and you'll discover the joy in a childs sincere originality. No adult is this creative!!

TAMMY (age 4) was with her mother when they met an elderly, rather wrinkled woman her Mom knew. Tammy looked at her for a while and then asked, "Why doesn't your skin fit your face?"

JACK (age 3) was watching his Mom breast-feeding his new baby sister. After a while he asked: "Mom why have you got two? Is one for hot and one for cold milk?"

MELANIE (age 5) asked her Granny how old she was. Granny replied she was so old she didn't remember any more. Melanie said, "If you don't remember you must look in the back of your panties. Mine say five
to six."

STEVEN (age 3) hugged and kissed his Mom good night. "I love you so much that when you die I'm going to bury you outside my bedroom window."

BRITTANY (age 4) had an earache and wanted a pain killer. She tried in vain to take the lid off the bottle. Seeing her frustration, her Mom explained it was a child-proof cap and she'd have to open it for her. Eyes wide with wonder, the little girl asked: "How does it know it's me?"

SUSAN (age 4) was drinking juice when she got the hiccups. "Please don't give me this juice again," she said, "It makes my teeth cough."

DJ (age 4) stepped onto the bathroom scale and asked: "How much do I cost?"

MARC (age 4) was engrossed in a young couple that were hugging and kissing in a restaurant. Without taking his eyes off them, he asked his dad: "Why is he whispering in her mouth?"

CLINTON (age 5) was in his bedroom looking worried. When his Mom asked what was troubling him, he replied, "I don't know what'll happen with this bed when I get married. How will my wife fit in?"

JAMES (age 4) was listening to a Bible story. His dad read: "The man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city but his wife looked back and was turned to salt." Concerned, James asked: "What happened to the flea?"

The Sermon I think this Mom will never forget.... this particular Sunday: "Dear Lord," the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. "Without you, we are but
dust..." He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four year old girl voice, "Mom, what is butt dust?"

That was good, luvs2garden.

Just a couple of weeks ago, my 6 year old Lizzie came to me. She said "my ceiling fan doesn't work very well mom." I said really. She said "no it only blows hot air." She was completely serious.

I've gotten many chuckles out of that.
