Dachshunds,
I got some Archangel pigeons and Modena pigeons today. Actually I got them for Teach but I picked up a pair of the Archangels for my son as well.
Can Modenas fly very well?
They look too fat to flya t all.

Oklahoma law prohibits the knowing and willful killing or molestation of hawks, falcons, owls, or eagles, or their nests, eggs, or young. The only exceptions to this prohibition are the taking of a hawk or owl in the act of destroying domestic birds or fowl, or the use of hawks, owls, falcons, or eagles by licensed falconers.

I found this on a site so I am glad to know that I can protect my flock legally lol

I understand that. That is pretty much my genetic makeup as well.

Thanks so much!!! Now to find pouters and my pigeon dreams are filled...kinda...need more swallos lost some this summer...might need some more mookies again...they are cute...

quenston - deep holes solve problems...just remember bragging and pictures can be used as evidence...loose lips sink ships and get folks thrown in the pokey...the only way to have a secret is if you are the only one that knows it...that is all I have to say about things that get shot..

There are over 1000 different birds that are protected by federal law. And federal law can not be superceded by a state's laws. A state can go stricter then the federal law reads but not the other way.

Hmmm.... well, if it's attacking my chickens and I shoot at it and the invisible force field of the federal law protects it from my shot then I suppose it can haul off one of my chickens.

It's about time for their migration too. During the winter I have counted as many as 25 Redtails sitting on poles during my nine mile drive to work.

I have only lost one bird from a hawk in all the years I have had birds.

Had a Great Horned Owl try to carry off a big Buff Orpington hen one evening. Couldn't quite hang on to her and she just lost a few feathers but they were 50 feet off the ground when she fell from his grasp.

It has only been a day and 1/2 on the sulmet and it has worked wonders. The chickens are so perky today and I heard absolutely no coughing. YEAH!

How long do I need to hold eggs after the sulmet treatment? I keep finding different info everywhere.

Buckguy yeah Teach is right the modenas aren't built for flying, although they can get from ground to roof and such. Lucky Teach,I been looking for some Archangels but haven't found any yet. I never had good luck with the modenas. Sounds like pigeons are comming back to Afton again. Long time ago(not telling my age) they were real plentiful there.
I think I lost about three birds to this hawk. What surprises me is that I have small chicks running all over the yard,I'm surprised he didn't go after them!
Teach sounds like you will be getting quiet a load at Poops! That feed bill is going to get higher and higher if you ain't careful!lol
