There are over 1000 different birds that are protected by federal law. And federal law can not be superceded by a state's laws. A state can go stricter then the federal law reads but not the other way.

Yup, and I have a tendency to follow the law, whether I agree with it or not.

I will never forget the fist sentence of the D.O.T. manual. Goes something like " You will follow the laws set forth in this manual or the laws of the state, whichever is stricter"

Like the Feds say that you will have clean sheets on you bed and the bed will be made, for sleeper cab trucks, but the state of Pa. will fine you if the sheets are not white. They use the reasonong that if you have to make bandages out of them the dyes could cause an infection.

Had a great time at the inaugural Fletcher auction tonight. Wife and I sat with Al and wife, and next to Carla and Gerald.

I saw a lot of familiar faces there, all the usual suspects I see at the Cement and Blanchard auctions. I bought a ton of fencing (looks like I am going to start that goat project soon!) and still more of Carla's fine Bourbon Red hatching eggs.

I am really excited about the birds I bought. Two gorgeous young Dark Cornish and a trio of White Laced Red Cornish. Man those are some heavy birds! Small, but packed like a brick!

The trio I will use to start a third flock, the DC roosters I will mix with my DC pullets when they are old enough, along with a roo or two from their batch. That will be the parent flock of my meat birds of the future.

I think I am going to like this auction. Erlene said the folks there she talked to told her they would be moving out of the barn and into the big shelter on hot days, which is a smart move in my view. It goes up against Cement next time, though. We'll see what happens then. That will be the big test, I guess. I'm going to Fletcher on October 3, just to see what happens.

ETA:
And how could I forget! Erlene and I had a nice dinner afterward at the finest eating establishment in all of Elgin with Mr. and Mrs. Al. That was a nice way to top off the evening.

A very fine day all the way around.

If I remember correctly from back in my lawman days, even pocessing a feather or claw from a raptor is illegal.Hawks have been the bane of pigeon growers for years. Not being able to legally do away with them hasn't helped any.
****post edited. BYC doesn't condone illegal means of depredation**

No, I'm pretty sure they are protected even then under federal law, at least most of them are.

In Oklahoma this is also true, unless one is a citizen of an Indian nation. That's how it's been explained to me in the past, I've not gone so far as to look it up. I've known other Creek indians who have had them, I've never known of any of them getting into any kind of trouble for it.

Good morning everyone...

how was the fletcher auction? What kind of things were being sold there since we missed out on going? I have a neighbor who was curious to know... Thought I might ask those of you in my area that went.

Another thing..

My chicks are 6 weeks old and ready to switch them over from starter to grower.... Friday I went and picked up a bag of Chicken feed from my coop since I needed horse feed.... I realized last night that the bag of feed I got was for LAYERS
barnie.gif
... my girls arent expected to be laying for another 12 weeks...I havent gave them the layer feed yet because I still had enough starter to feed them dinner but its breakfast time since the COOP is closed today and I wont be heading up town for chuch until later...

Will it be safe to give them my game bird grower feed? for a one time deal until I can hit Atwoods after church for the right bag of chicken feed?.... Your wisdom will be appreciated.
