Al can speak for himself, of course, but I think he seems to favor Cement. I like it fine, but tend to think Blanchard is the better auction. More people, more money per sale for the sellers, more birds for the buyers, better auctioneers, better organized, etc.

Gerald and Carla have done a lot of selling at both and would certainly know more than I would, though. Haven't seen Carla on here as much as I used to. Hopefully she will chime in.

Next Blanchard is next Saturday, Oct 24th at 5 (unless you like goats, then it starts at 2). Next Cement auction is November 7, same time.

Everybody has their favorite auction.

Heat? Yes please.

He broke through the drift and I had to go rescue him. He sure tried to convince his girls to stay inside that morning but no they just had to go out. Being the fathfull rooster that he was he had to go watch over them.

Roy : Hey Bud Yeah Blanchard is what I would recomend for a few reasons, one less travel time for you, more birds and different other neat things, it's a pretty good auction. And best of all at that auction there are more of us BYC Okies that go there, maybe 15 or more of us. So yes when can we count on you, I will personally make sure you and the boy's have a good time, heck Stimpy's GS was playin football with the other kids till dark, so they will feel right at home. Come on down you know we would love to see ya Boy!!!!.

See, Teach? He likes Blanchard, like I said.

Les, I don't see any other tracks around him, although it looks like he tried to make a snow angel. I think he is just like any other little boy (or girl) and likes to play in the snow.

You could set any eggs laid tomorrow and if they are close enough in proximity to the other eggs, they will likely all hatch at about the same time. There is something about putting eggs together like that - there is a transfer of ???? between the eggs that causes the eggs with a few days of the first ones to mature and hatch at the same time, even if they themselves have been in the incubator less than 21 days. That is why if I am setting eggs a week apart, I try to leave a row of empty holders between the two groups of eggs, so the first group doesn't affect the growth rate of the second group and vice versa.

Anyone with more knowlege, feel free to tell me that I am believing an old wives tale - I am just repeating what someone who used to hatch thousands of quail each month told me.

Yep real close, about a day apart. LOL

Best chicken hatch I ever had I kept the eggs in the fridge before setting them. It was like 21 days and one hour from the time they were put in. All chicks hatched within a few minutes of each other.

Now if the group of eggs were in a hot spot like under the element or near the turning motor those eggs would hatch early and could even beat an earlier set chick out of the shell.

With game birds such as quail though I don't know. I bet though a wild Bobwhite actually hatches differently then one that has been bred for years by man.

Jim : Well it was really a no brainer, if he is going to travel that far he has to have a good time at a place where they have more to offer, so yeah Blanchard is the one. I hope Gerald is out of his auction slump by then, I need my Gerald fix.
