John was in the fertilized egg business.

He had several hundred young layers (hens), called 'pullets,' and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs. He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced. This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters.

Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells.

John's favorite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all! When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, could run for cover.

To John's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one.

John was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the Renfrew County Fair and he became an overnight sensation among the judges. The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the No Bell Piece Prize but they also awarded him the Pulletsurprise as well.

Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most highly coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention.

I am not totally sure on Blanchards schedule, but the further you get into the colder months the leaner the pickins are, if ya know what I mean. Most folks have pretty well thinned their flocks or spring hatching culls by then. but they still should have plenty I'm betting.

Buster !!!!!!!!!!! or anybody who knows when is the next Blanchard after EOM Oct????.

I had a great day. I slept in alittle then played with my chickens. Then worked on moving the fence with DH before going to Tulsa to get my neice & meet up with Dash & City. Ending the evening with seeing my new nephew and eating way to much for dinner. I am now washing clothes for my neice. She goes to college in Bartlesville and I don't want her to have to try to work it in between classes.

Find anything at the auction? Did you buy Buster a hotdog??

The auction was a total bust, I don't know what these people are thinking (auction owners). there were maybe 2 dozen birds there and thats it, along with garage sale type junk stuff, the auction lasted maybe an hour and they reniged on the free hot dogs till the next sale. No major auction buyers or sellers were there and the main problem I am told is that they charge sales tax when all the others do not. Seems to me that this Fletcher auction will sink faster than the Titanic, too bad to because I wanted it to work being so close and all.

Yep, I agree. That is why I was scrabbling on Thursday to completely clean out every coop and put down fresh bedding. We have never lost a hen to the cold though. We have only lost two from old age, one from something the hen did on her own, and one by the outside dog, but all survived the winter.

went in and checked them and they were so snug, and their feet were toasty, so alls well in the coop!

Well I'm still awake...

Can't go to sleep yet, not quite tired. Looking at the 'bator and wondering exactly what kind of trouble I've got myself into...

No not really, just not tired. I should be... I work tomorrow, but at least I don't have to go in until early afternoon.

Some mailed EEs that J surprised me with (I had no clue til the mail guy showed up with them... evil enabler that he is) and some mutt eggs from P&B

I'm tired, but I'm not sleepy. That's kinda dangerous... means that I'm mindlessly surfing. That's how I always get myself into heaps of trouble!

What kind of internships are you looking for?

HA!! Grace used to send me her test eggs, but she always sent more than originally agreed upon... Lol

I'm an Environmental Science major at OU, so something having to do with that... Hey your other half is at Tinker right? I thought I saw that they had an environmental position open for some reason.
