Okies in the BYC The Original

Hope everyone is having a great day - it's absolutely beautiful out here. I've been outside since before 8 taking the fence down around my garden, rolling garden hose, turning the compost pile, shoveling leaves onto the garden, etc. I realized again why the lowly fence pliers are my favorite hand tool. The chickens have been free ranging and are discovering the garden area, so they'll spread the compost and leaves around for me. I still have green tomatoes on the vine and I picked a ripe bell pepper for my breakfast...crisp and cool and yum! I came inside to fix my lunch - fried egg sandwich (my daily routine) - now I'll head back outside to read the paper, watch the chickens and enjoy the sunshine.

Everyone who is going have fun at Blanchard!

Happy Birthday, Greybear!

Sorry you had to get up so early on you day to sleep in, Faerielady.

Congrats on the promotion, MAllen.

You're a good and thoughtful husband to stay with your wife today, Ronnie.

Have a wonderful day, all!

He believe silents had more rewards then fire. But the other half is Dutch, German and Irish.

Hey ya'll, how's everyone enjoying this weather? Must be, there's hardly anyone chattin it up today! I did go back to sleep after getting up this morning. Not sure we will be making it to the Blanchard auction, I was actually up early cuz hubby was up sick.

What time does it start??

Hey y'all.

My son works at Floyd's RV's in Norman. They are having a garage sale and he mentioned that they had a stack of lumber up there for $10. I figured I could use it for some of my projects around here so I told him to buy it and I would bring my trailer up to haul it home.

What he called a "stack of lumber" turned out to be everything that my truck and trailer could haul. They had torn down a pretty good sized building that had been storm damaged and stacked the wood at the edge of the lot. There is easily enough wood there to finish my sheds and build ol' what's-her-name the back porch she's been bugging me about.

Now, who wants to help me unload my trailer? Any volunteers?

Chickens

Whew.......Na-Na and Pa-Pa are pooped, and so are the kids. But, all went
really well. Basketball is fine....chickens are fine.....just not both in the same
week !!!!!!!!!!

Grace and Dandelion and her girls were at Eufaula today, too. I know Grace's
new Black Cochins did very well and Dandelion's girl, Cordelia did well with
her Modern OEG, but am not sure about the rest of their birds.

It was only a 105-110 bird show, so they ended up combining some classes.
Here we were, 2 kids and 4 New Hampshire Reds....LOL So, some little
boy (?) and Cordelia pitched in and showed a couple of them for us.
Hey, Stimpy, they must have heard us last night........... They had carpet
squares all down the tables for the kids..........LOL

Anyway, the New Hampshires did very well, TJ's Black OEGB and Kendra's
RIR roo did very well, and Kendra won Grand Champion - Best of Show with
her Spangled OEGB roo. TJ got out of there with $75..........and this stinking
Kendra won $200 all together !!!!!!!!! Am wishing Pa-Pa hadn't told them
he'd match their winnings.....................................

Hope y'all have fun at the auction tonight. We're gonna crash around here......

Have a good one !

Another show (maybe my last for the season) is "in the books"! I have to say, it was fantastic! I won "titles", ribbons, and money; learned more about my birds; and got to visit with two great BYC families!! What could be better!

Eulaine, you must have posted while I was working on my long one!

You're two both deserve a big hand (as do Sherri's girls

) since us BYCers stole the show, and Kendra was at the top of it all!

Great visiting with you all, I just wished we lived closer so we could get together more often!
I think we have a secret lurker, from that show staff, on this forum

No sooner do you post that it would be much smarter to put carpet on the tables, then they put it on theirs

Just got in the house. Birds have been unloaded and cooped. Girls ran and got in the whirlpool. I just want to take a nap. (Both girls took one on the way home.) I enjoyed visiting with all the BYCers today. The competition that the BYC Juniors put out at shows is fierce. My girls birds did good. Corey's Birchen MGB pullet got Reserve Bantam. Kendra's Spangled OEGB Cock won the Champion Bantam but Corey still got to compete for Champion of the Show. That was so exciting. I talked to the judge afterward and he said her pullet was the 3rd best in the show. (Missed it by that much...) I got some insight on his perspective and I feel like I'm getting the game bantam class now. Watch out! (Don't worry, it will change next show anyway...)

The BYC Juniors here on our Okie thread was 1/2 of the birds competing for Champion Bantam. It was a small show but the quality wasn't skimping for those in the winner's row. Grace's amazing Cochin was there in the lineup too.

Out of our kids (Grace, Kendra, TJ, Corey & Liz), Liz was the only one to not make it in competition for Champion Bantam. Because of this, I've already promised to get her a great pair of birds as soon as possible. That will probably be Fayetteville.

I was very proud of my girls efforts in helping others. I had called on Friday and it sounded very whishy washy on the breakup of the classes so we went minimal on the birds we brought to reduce stress. That was my decision not my girl's. This was the first table show we had went to (or seen) so it has been a very educational day.

Edited to add:

I see while I was stumbling in tiredness that Grace put everything together so well with pictures and got it posted while I was typing. I haven't even looked at my camera yet.

Pictures are worth a thousand words, right?

Well put Grace!

It is very rare that my birds place the exact same way at two different shows. Like, when I still had my Hamburgs, the cock and hen seamed to take turns winning Class Champ, it was kind of funny!

Yes, when I called them they were the same way

I wish they would have set divisions no matter how many birds are there or are not there! I wound up bring quite a lot of birds anyway, but I should have skimped on the Feather Legged hens

(I had 5!)
