You mean those 3" long rubber fingers, thats what makes the feather plucking easy.

Rubber fingers on the sides of the tub and the plate on the bottom. The bottom plate is what spins (it is detached from the wall of the tub, which is stationary) and those rubber fingers slap at the bird until all the feathers are rubbed off.

I got the book at will build some version of it if I get to the point of doing a couple hundred birds a year. One guy took the concept and used a top loading washing machine instead, which I may just do. I saved our old one out in the shed for just such a purpose.

Most people are better at managing them in cages and such, and I was finding I was just throwing them all in together, which isn't good flock management either. Couple of generations down the road and I would have nothing but a bunch of mutts!!

And I wanted to keep my Cornish pure, culling to go for the standard plus some extra size down the road. I know folks talk about hybrid vigor, but I've really grown attached to the breed as it is.

If I fail at this, I'll probably just chuck the whole thing, buy a couple leghorn hens and run some Freedom Rangers during meat season.

Grace - The Calera auction is around the first weekend after Labor Day. I haven't been in quite a long time. It is huge. They also have venders that sell just about everything.

Buster - You might have something there with the washing machine idea.

Buster I was thinking the same thing on the top load washer, I have one here that I have taken apart and still have all the parts so that is why I was asking what the rubber fingers were, now I guess I can start tinkering on that and quit killing threads around here LOL

Thanks! You guys make me giggle!

Two breeds? That is wrong! How about like ly 2 colors for each breed...no...2 dilutions with self blue for each color for each breed for each area of the yard...You need some pigeons all the cool kids have pigeons! You need some pheasants cuz they are cool...and yup!

On a slightly serious note....if you are really getting rid of birds...I know a little girl that needs some color birds in her flock...EE's and she needs some foo-foo birds cuz...she is a little girl!

I dunno. Guineas sound like fun.

Yes they do make sounds hehehe but fun is not how I would describe them LOL. They are louder than all get out.

Bungi cords are what alot of us pro's use, just use the rubber from inside the cords. when drilling for the inserts just make the hole smaller and slot the base of the cords so they pop into the holes and stay put.
