Hey folks,

Without getting too political I'd like to remind everyone that tomorrow is the 234th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps. We have a lot of guys in harm's way in places with names we can't even pronounce. If you get a minute, remember these guys in your prayers. That's all they'll ever ask of you.

Once a Marine, always a Marine.

That is earlier than I thought it was! We still wouldn't be back in time for the morning class.... maybe in time for church, but then we'd still have to unload the birds.... oh well....

Does anyone know if or how much the Shawnee show will charge for admission? My daughter wants to take her kids. They are low income and can't afford much. Youngest granddaughter is VERY much interested in raising chickens and I think she would enjoy it - even if she's only five. Daughter says she's too young to try to show herself, but she won't learn the ins and outs any younger!

They already have that with their MGB. Corey has the Birchens and Liz has the Red Pyles. So that doesn't work.

WE HAVE TOO MANY BIRDS!!!

Kendra picked out the deep mahogany RIRs. That's another adult breed (like the Shamos)

so that's probably why the price really went up. No foo foo there.

I candled Corey first Birchen MGB egg. It's not fertile.

Thanks Stimp - that is a powerful message and the song is going to stay in my head for a long while. I am glad I watched it twice, because I could focus on the pictures and the words to the song better the second time.

Thanks so much. I'm really glad you came and hung out. It's so much fun with so many already knowing each other.

Are you going to be bringing your kiddos to Shawnee? It would be great for you and your family to start making the shows. Of course, Sooner, your family is included in that plea too!

We might need some "Okies in the BYC Road Crew" t-shirts!

Grace, I am looking at the Shawnee Catalog. The Junior Awards are supposed to be given at 8 am on Sunday morning. Depending on what time you go to church you might be able to make it back in time. It sure would be nice for you to get to show your Cochins and Silkies...

Thanks Danelion! We will be making the shows with in reason and as long as Madison is having fun. We will be at Shawnee on Sat to check out everything but won't be showing.

Our next show is this Thursday. Got her registered today and we just finished washing all 5 chickens. She even wanted to take the BTW Jap. He is a good looking bird. Maybe next time. Think I will build a smaller cage that I can put him in an tame him down some before we go hauling him to a show. I am even considering getting a trio for myself.

That's a loaded question!

There are so many different thoughts on how to handle hatching eggs.

Personally, I keep my at room temperature (@ my house that's 70-85 degrees) on the kitchen countertop in an egg turner. If they are really dirting, I wash them and spray with Tek-trol.

Some swear by putting them in the refrigerator first but most say no. Some will not wash an egg (if it's dirty enough to need washing they don't set it).

Hope this helps & good luck.

I have read in the past that it only takes 80 deg for a few hours to start an egg to devolop. I started keeping mine in the frige after that and my hatches are more even, not stung out over a day or two. As long as an egg doesn't freeze the embryo will still devolop just fine. A friend keeps hers in a wine cooler at around 60 deg.

Just a thought

When you read the manufacture directions for incubators they recomend 50-55 deg. I only know this because Madison insisted on setting the eggs her white cochin has laid.....not much hope for them but I am going to set them anyways.

Grace the oriental games are the sweetest birds you will ever lay hands on. Yes they will fight with other birds but I have picked up mine in full fight mode when they got out of their pens with no recourse from them. More then I can say for my RIRs.

With most of my other breeds I keep spurs trimmed short for the protection of our granddaughter cause at times she gets excited and startles the birds. My Orientals will just run from her and then come up to her after she settles down.

I likes game birds! they are cool and know how to handle trouble...and then are sweet to you! Gonna get me some more good ones!!

Gotta go eat! I am being a bad boy and skipping lodge...I think I need more family time! and here I am talking to y'all...but you is family too!!!
