Okies in the BYC The Original

Hope everyone is staying safe in this weather.

West Tulsa (where I live) was great road wise. South Tulsa and east...not so much. The Creek Turnpike was a solid sheet of ice in most places.

I'm here at work and am not looking forward to the drive home. Right now I'm very thankful we don't have chickens yet.

Well since these hens would only be yard ornaments and would free up space for me i would have to say nothing.
I may be able to find an excuse to go to OKC some evening too.
Just last week I was down in Goldsby picking up a truck for the wife.

Cool! If you happen to get down this way, let me know and we can meet up. I don't know OKC too well. I know where Bass Pro and the mall are. Wish you were doing the pickup thing this week. Goldsby is about 20 minutes north of me!!

Chickstock. That sounds fun. When and where is it held normally? What happens there? Buying, Selling, Showing?

Wouldn't it be easier for everyone to just wear the yellow "Chillin with my peeps" t-shirts with their username on the back than pinning on a yellow name tag? You can tell me to
duc.gif
if that's silly.

I'd better quit

and tend to my

to keep them from being

at me. Gotta love breaking ice!

Well this is one time I am glad I live out west!! In the spring when the storms start you will get a different story! All we get is wind!!! With the wind it was 3 degrees when I did hens this morning. Now it is all of 11! Hens are out in the sunshine though.... hiding behind the hay bail to block the wind! We didn't get any ice

We usually get one good blast of it before Christmas and one after. Moisture seems to be lacking for all these fronts going through for us.

I love the picture of Carla, Grace and Cammie at Shawnee... only one thing wrong with it..... I'M NOT IN IT!!!!!
hit.gif
Cammie I have hubby promised to take me to Chickasha for Jake's and the lights... maybe we could meet up then?

Sounds like everyone had a blast... thank goodness the weather held for y'all to get home!! Ya gotta love Oklahoma... you just never know!

See ya....

I really hope we can get together and meet up!! Teach is right though it has to be after basketball season and BEFORE baseball season!! Our lives center around little leagugue baseball in the summer, and we only have 1 kid
roll.png
but during baseball season we have close to 70. My husband and I run the Quapaw Little League(for 2 more years.

then we are DONE). We have done this for the past 7 years so we are really wrapped up in it and can hardly get away. We have to plan vactions around baseball games and state tourneys, which is in Talequah this coming year in July. I am all about getting together and swapping birds and stories!! Even my anti-social hubby had a great time at Shawnee meeting people.

Well I think I ended up with the chicken flu from Shawnee!!

On our way home I wasn't feeling to hot and by the time I got home and tucked all 47, yes you heard right 47 new babies in I was sicker than a dog.

I started the sitting on the pot holding a trash can about 9 pm and ended up in the ER around 7am Sunday morning. I was dismissed from the hospital this afternoon. I am so sore from the puking/pooping syndrome and lying in that stupid hospital bed!! My wonderful hubby has taking care of all of our flock PLUS the new ones. PLUS having to check his cows, the crazy things are due to calve anyday now!! He said the reason I got sick is because I went crazy and bought all of those chickens, they gave me the chicken flu!!

I also came home to 6 brand new bantam cochins. They hatched yesterday and today. So we need to plan Chickenstock 09 fast!! I definatly will have fluffy butts to bring!!

I think I am going to enjoy the bantam brown leghorns. The are really cute. I haven't got to enjoy them yet BUT when I recover a bit more I will get out there and mess with them!!

Well I catch you guys later I am going to go rest a bit!!

Thanks, I would have liked to have met him.
We talked on the phone for a long time that day though so I got to know him a little bit then.
Seems like a great guy.

Slightly Cracked, i hope you get to feeling better, and can enjoy all 53 (47+6) of your new additions soon

mikarod, sorry you didn't get in the picture, too!

Dandelion007, ChickenStock is fun! Yes - buying, selling, showing, contests - we had it all
big_smile.png
We have only held one, it was this fall. Here is the topic that talks about it.
It would be 'easier' if we all wore BYC t-shirts, but not everyone has one. It was from those shirts, that we first came up with the 'yellow' name tags last year

nnbreeder,
lol.png
that's fine. I did almost use a bigger name tag, but I was hoping as long as someone saw the yellow, the writing wouldn't matter so much!

OklahomaJamie,

Your orangish-yellow rooster sounds like a Buff Orpington bantam, or something along those lines...
Yes, you can keep bantams and large fowl together just fine, as long as they have enough space.
