She wanted fantails, capuchine and something else... Texas something... I'll have to ask her again. I told her she needed to research what it would take to care for them. I don't want her just saying "Oh, I wanna do..." and then later I end up having to take care of everything.

But, it's great to know you have them! I can get them local.

to the cold, even the ones that roost in the trees. Mine are all in pens, some completely enclosed with plastic wrapping and others just enough to give them a wind break. Some have nothing at all except the roof to keep the wet stuff off of them.

Are they your personal stock or from outside sources?

ChickenGurl - I sent you a PM. Hopefully she will find some interest there! They are fun and it is neat to sit with them and hear them. My boy had a little roller that would sit on his shoulder...he thought he was a pirate! Then we had the great dog attack....

Monty try boosting your protien in the feed, could the youngsters be piling through the night and suffocating The ones on the bottom of the pile?
I'm losing some of my really old birds but the rest are just fine, may lose a few combs though.

Pictures of our new coop (finished yesterday) and pictures of our banties:

It's a 4x8 foot coop built inside our 10x12 shed. When it warms up a bit, we'll put a chicken door in the back and make a chicken run (that we can close each night) outside the shed.

This is our hen, Brownie, on the new roost.

A couple pictures of all 4 chickens.

Licorice, our gorgeous cochin rooster.

I put a bit of chicken wire inside the door so that the chickens can't escape when I open the door.

The guineas have taken over the old chicken coop.

Jamie the top pic with all four of them the two to the right are what looks like BB Red Old English Game bantams. The buff looks like possibly a bantam Buff Orp? and I have no idea on the feather footed one.

So how many hens would it take to trade you out of the buff????

OklahomaJamie, I love your coop - what spoiled chickens!

Your orangish rooster is deffinately a Buff Orpington, and a very pretty one at that

Monty, sorry about the losses

I am not sure what it could be, except maybe the suffocation that someone else mentioned

Dandelion007, ChickenStock is probably going to be held at a different location this year, but I don't think it has been decided yet.

The question is.... how many hens would you give me for him? I'm new at this and don't know, I just figured hens were worth more and I'd have to trade all my roosters for just one hen.

LOL...Grace that was cute.... everyone here (cats) have gone through the "Oh look! A tree!"/ Barfing up pine needles stage. every year I say I'm gonna get fake, and every year I relent when I smell them.
