I can sure understand what MONTY is going through lately, I was feeding today and notice my favorite Rooster huddled in the corner of the coop, alive but feeling poor. I took him inside wrapped him in a heavy towel, then he promptly gave up the ghost. What a loss I really liked this one, he was cool. All of the other 70 are doing great so I really don't know what happened??. I hope y'all are having better luck.

My big Australorp rooster had both feet frozen to the point that they would not bend at all and he is in a carrier recovering now. Doesn't look like there was damage to them but it's early yet.
Lost two young Rock pullets and two old bantam hens. The old hens I kinda expected but not the youngsters.

I sure hope the rest of this winter goes pretty smooth for all of us.

I have dealt with him (in seminloe) quite a bit and have had mixed results.... I will not bash anyone out in the open but if you have a genuine need to know you can ask a specific question and Ill answer it.

Ok, against my better judgement I had a p rock hen go broody, with 2 eggs, apparently with only two eggs she just wanted too. Sure enough despite the freezing temperatures, this afternoon, I heard two little peeps and saw two little fuzzball stick out from under mom. I am thinking Frost and Snowball for names, but i havent decided yet. I think if I can manage to steal them away from her I will go ahead and put them in my brooder, they might be a bit warmer that way. Has anyone else had any hens try to go broody this winter.

My dad had a hen hatch out four chicks the weekend after Thanksgiving. I brought them home.
They are in a brooder inside my hen house but two still died. It looks like I have a boy and a girl left.

Crazy: Thanks for the info on the hatchery.

Thanks to everyone else with your help about the cold weather.

I'm getting frustrated with my little Old English bantie rooster!! I go into the coop to get my one egg and he just will not quick flying up at my legs trying to attack me. I kick him back and tell him no and he just keeps coming back. Probably 15 times in a row. The other 2 roosters were walking towards me and following me around, don't know if they are gonna try it too, but then they ganged up on the little rooster. I'm very new to chickens and I do not like these roosters, I'm embarrased to admit but I'm scared of them. My husband makes fun of me because I'm scared of little bantie roosters. What do I do?

Hi Jamie
No mean roo is worth it, hate to sound mean, but kill him.
I am afraid of them too and they sense it. the little turds.....lol
Ive only had one ornery one and that is enough.
Good luck!
