That is a great idea! I don't get the sale ads though

I already do have the black rubber feed pans for water...I am just not looking forward to getting the hose out twice a day to run all the way up to the barn to fill waterers...UGH! That is the part about winter that I dislike the most...hauling the hose and rolling it up again so it won't freeze...

I knew there was a reason I didn't want chickens again!

I hate having to carry the buckets of warm water to the henhouse. In the winter, we've been known to pour really hot water over the ice in the waterers. At that time (20+ years ago) we used old hot water tanks cut in half for feeders and waterers. There are still some out in the goat pen that still hold water, believe it or not

. We poured the hot water over the ice - it mixed with the cold water and ice and gave the chickens a nice warm drink. I had to carry the water 3 - 4 times a day.

Come to think of it, now I'm the one working and DH stays home (disabled). Now HE will get to carry the water. Life is good!

Carla - sorry to hear that! I will get some prayer warriors on that!

saw a later post...glad he is in good spirits and wanting out!! Make sure he listens to what they tell him to do!!

Okla-doodle-doo - I am in the panhandle...and snow ain't cool! Well it is technically cold but that ain't the point! It isn't fun to mess with...kinda pretty coming down but if it sticks then you gotta move it. Don't think it will stay on the roads still fairly warm. it will be good for the wheat which is good for the deer which are fun to shoot at which causes me to have dinner!!! Don't know anyone that raises them...but i want some...I actually need them...my wife would argue that...

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Things went very well. We buried his ashes in saddle bags...thought that was a good way for a cowboy to go. John Connely (former governor of Texas) said that my father had the finest eyes for cattle of any man he knew. This was in the late 60's early 70's. Abck when cattle prices were crazy and my dad was running ranches.

He calls me the "crazy chicken lady" and doesn't much care for the chickens. However, this chick is from the batch I hatched last week and he really likes its color. Still surprising to see the anti-chicken person with a chick in his lap. LOL Still got it there too. Chick is asleep.

I forgot to reply to the person that asked about who all was still hatching...we are supposed to stop?? That sounds like quitting to me! We don't tolerate not quitters around here!!! Unless it is someone that quits hating chickens and starts sleeping with them...wait...that might be bad as well...I don't know. i think I will go to sleep...it ain't with Tom Clancy though...Max Brand...I likes westerns!!
