Actually I was waiting to see if I got my flock tested today(didn't/rain) and to talk to Miss Madison.

My question to you is how much he wants for the Crevecours??

I'll find out tomorrow.

Oh, Well I have downsized some. but then I upsized again yesterday. I have lost a few to predators and other things so I know I will have to get a few new birds come springtime.
If I can't find a Hamburg rooster then I will sell the hens I have.
I will also probably sell my Campines although I hate to since they were so hard to find a start of. I have thought about selling them before but I have always backed out.
I have some Campine/Buff Orpington crosses that I want to sell although I could keep them as part of my egg layer flock.
I can never reach my goals when it comes to the birds because I waffle too much on what I want to keep and what I want to sell.

the guinea pictures are wonderful

I probably like my guineas better than my chickens, as far as watching them is concerned.

Good luck with the rooster. I managed to train a couple not to attack me, but then they would choose someone else to attack. The best trainer for a mean rooster is a flock of guineas. My guineas have marched more than one rooster around by his tail feathers. One that was given to me because he was drawing blood on the owner, was so cowed by the guineas he never again tried to integrate with the rest of the chickens and became a loner - roosting by himself out of sight of the other poultry.

Atwoods will be putting their 3 quart heated dog water bowls on sale soon watch for the sale paper they were $10.00 each the last few years

or you can use the black rubber water bowls the ice will come right out then just put in fresh water a few times a day

Allen

That is a great idea! I don't get the sale ads though

I already do have the black rubber feed pans for water...I am just not looking forward to getting the hose out twice a day to run all the way up to the barn to fill waterers...UGH! That is the part about winter that I dislike the most...hauling the hose and rolling it up again so it won't freeze...

Instead of dumping out the black rubber feed pans, use a shovel to break the top inch of ice and you can usually do that for a few days before you have to dump the whole thing. You can also carry a bucket of hot water to pour into the feed pans once the top layer of ice is broken, which will further delay freezing.

I went on a website in regards to the event and found this to be great

1857 massacre

I even sent an email to my friends and family who are history buffs too, they responded so far with never hearing about it but am greatful for the link to learn more... Thanks for sharing though Buster its a great history lesson

And thank you for the site. Just glanced at it, but it is excellent so far.

Cool that Stimpy wrote a paper on it. I'll have to pick his brain on it if we ever meet up at Blanchard or POOPS or someplace. After he returns from Eastern Europe, of course.

As soon as we find out from Michael on the other, I will let you know on the hamburgs. That is my problem right now. I have to decide what I am doing and get it lined out. I have my laying flock, my partridge cochins and then all the misc. breeds......cochins/silkies/BTW jap/marans.....

Now that is the right attitude to have - just hatch year round. That way, you don't get the chance to remember what life was like when you didn't have chicks in the brooder and you only had older birds to feed and water.

Disclaimer: this thread has a lot of very friendly people who suffer from addictions to acquiring poultry, hatching eggs and poultry auctions. This means that we have enablers who would love for you to share our addictions to poultry.

So, having given you the standard disclaimer and warning against enablers, what kind of chickens/poultry do you have and what are you wishing you could acquire?

Thanks!

Well, I currently have some Barred Rocks, several OEG's, some rhodies, 39 ? eggs in the 'bator (hopefully I'll get some pure Buff Orps, the guy I bought them from had a whole bunch of differant chickens, but all his roo's were buff orps except one lol) a cochin cockeral and a couple guinneas. Oh yeah, and a few white silkies lol.

I'd like to get some Orps, especially the blue ones, some Easter Egger's, and some Vulturine guinneas. Would also like to try turkeys and pigeons just for the heck of it lol.

On Eggbid.com right now there is a pair of the Vulturines up for auction but they are expensive.

Good morning Okies! I woke up around 4:30am and couldn't go back to sleep for that extra half hour... not something I want to do on the days I end up working 14 hours.

I hope everybody has a wonderful, enriching day

I am amazed that a guinea would fly anywhere, unless it was dusk or it was being chased and almost caught. Otherwise, mine prefer to run up and down the fence all day, causing people to stop and tell me my guinea is out of the fence and can't find its way back over.

Yes, it is indeed fortunate that it wasn't the only female. Otherwise you would have been stuck with a flock of birds that collectively sound like a motor that can't quite get started with their click click clicks. (and of course the obvious, no eggs this spring)
