They have the Longhorns bred out real nice these days. I remember when I was little that a good looking Longhorn looked like it was about to die from starvation. LOL But the stong points of the breed was disease resistance and the ability to survive. I think you could fence in a parking lot and they would gain weight out there. Perfect for the poor soils of the Southern Plains.
It's strange but a calf with a black hide sells better. Used to be all that was seen around here was Herefords. Have you ever been to Express Ranches up in Yukon? We go to see the horses there fairly often. They have one of the few hitches of black Clydesdales in the world. I wouldn't mind living in the quarters where they keep the horses!
