Okies in the BYC The Original

cross posted from the sick chicks board...hoping you guys could help me.

Okay, I've tried reading the posts here to get help, but I'm not sure if my situation fits what others have asked. So...

I had 7 chicks (they are about 3 months old). Everything was fine until a few days ago. I found one of my white chicks laying dead in the yard. Honestly, I thought maybe one of the cows stepped on her (they like to run with the cows). Then, about an hour later, I saw a hawk flying LOOOWWWW over the back yard and ran out to investigate...and found ANOTHER white chicken dead next to the hay. But, where she was, there was no way the cows got to her...and she looked fine...just dead.

Then, this morning, I went out to the coop to let the girls out, and another little hen was dead...just laying in the middle of the coop floor.

This afternoon, I gathered all the little ones (the 4 that are left) and was looking and listening and two of them sound "raspy"...like they're hoarse.

I don't know if maybe their voices are changing or maybe they're sick.

I'm so frustrated...and sad...any ideas?

Thank you.

Hello Everyone!!
Hope everyone is doing well. I only went back a few pages to see who was on so I am not up to speed with my BYC friends. Sorry about disappearing like that, I have missed you all so much. Just wanted to let everyone know I am not dead, just bustin my hump with work, school and house. It has been pretty sad here for a while. We lost over 2/3 of the flock to ???? I do know an opossum got a couple of them but I lost 4 turkeys and one peacock that were roosting in the trees. Not exactly sure what is big enough to take out a 30lb turkey from the trees. Has anyone spotted hugh flying lizards lately? Anyway we moved the coop closer to the house and have a fenced in secure courtyard in place (thanks to Carla and Gerald for the dog kennels. So things are getting better on that front. Then of course when one area of your life gets itself fixed the other goes to Hades in a handbasket. Crazy female health problems, $800 car repair bill, $950 replace the well pump bill, having the septic pumped $250, and now the holidays. Yeah...
Things are looking up and settlings down. Paying bills off, getting medication to fix me up for a while and so far so good with the house. Hoping I can make Blanchard next time. When is the big show in Shawnee? I sure would like to go to that. Shawnee is the same distance from my place as Norman, which is not that far. Anyway, going to go to bed soon. Hope everyone who went to the auction bought and sold what they wanted to for a fair price. Have a great evening. Talk to you all soon.

I am a slow typist so please bear with me. With either Pen,or Tylan-50 I would give 1cc twice daily till the wheezing stops and then 4 days after it stops.

If you have Pen-G I would use the same dosage once daily but just give it every other day and just run three courses total.

Now if it doesn't stop in about three days I would be tempted to switch drugs to LS-50 but it is pricey. LS-50 is a combo drug and is formulated for CRD. It's very good.

Evening everyone... What a busy last few days we have been hit through... Hope everyone survived that Auction yall went too... Probably best we didnt go... we had to stay home work on the shop and dr one of our Standard Bronze Turkeys that our LGD(5 month pup) thought was a play toy. Our hen is ok was shook up for a while so we had to keep her in closed quarters with the other standard Bronze Hen we have to keep her company.. Our Narragensett were wondering where they went though...lol.... Boy did Jason wallop up Jackson(our pup)... we placed Jackson in the goat pen and even our goats were giving him a scolding(Our sophie girl head butted him in the rear end)... I think he learned a lesson at least for a lil while.

Anyhoot its late here for us... one to many nights staying up late is catching up on me now... Yall have a GREAT NIGHT.. CIAO

Home from Blanchard and the Duncan rabbit show. Had a lot of fun both places and really enjoyed visiting at the Blanchard auction with Carla and Gerald, Al, Buster (Jim), Funchick (Suzie), Old Mother Hen (Donese), and Michael D.

I need to set up a Hovabator in the morning. My good BYC enabler friend, Carla, gave me the one kind of eggs I said that I wouldn't be able to resist hatching. Wheaten marans. So, the "good intentions clause" has now been invoked in my promise to self to quit hatching for awhile.

The eggs are absolutely beautiful and I love wheaten colored chickens.

Thank you Carla!!!

Well, I started a batch of yogurt tonight. Was tempted to buy a container of Fage greek yogurt tonight then I looked at the price and choked. It's been a couple months since I made yogurt, but ehhhhh. Needs to be done. We eat a ton of yogurt, although I'm the only one that likes Greek yogurt (take that back, kiddo likes it if if I put vanilla in hers... lol).

Still not setting any eggs. Should just clean up the 'bator I borrowed from P&B and give it back, I'd do that tomorrow but I'm supposed to work. Yes, I'm starting a yogurt culture when I should be asleep. I'm soooo not sleepy! I'll probably force myself in an hour or so, after the milk has cooled and I've stirred in the culture.

I've got a few wheaton hens but they are not EEs. They are going to be about like the hens you got from me before but without the NN in them.

We are just now relaxing after returning from the Blanchard auction. It was a blast sitting at the back of the auction with fellow BYC'ers laughing & carrying on. Luckily the geese & guineas drowned out our conversations & laughter. Gerald and Al kept on cutting up & then their laughter was contageous. At one point the conversation had something to do with a specific body part of an alligator. Heck, we hardly ever noticed what was selling at the auction with all the fun we had. I'm sure glad we all had at least one good purchase during the sale .... including the character that bought a foo foo bird cage.

Almost unbelievable, but I only made one purchase. I'm not sure if it was willpower or I was so caught up with visiting with everyone.

Anyway, I sure had fun.

Gosh, I wish more Okies could have joined us, but it appears many of us intend to go to the Shawnee Show. I can hardly wait. Gerald informed me that he's going on a convoy with his Steel Soldiers buddies instead of going to the poultry show. I'm in shock ... he'd rather drive his big ol army truck & follow a bunch of other guys driving big ol army trucks instead of hang out with us

Practice makes for better hatches. I don't need the incubator until the spring - I have another one to hatch the wheaten marans that I got from Carla at Blanchard. Besides, how can I "enable" you to develop a hatching addiction unless you keep trying?
