Very good idea I thought the same thing, it's a good place for a fun get together, Something for everybody sort of thing. And people will have a place to stay overnight. The overnight thing is a big issue with traveling so far in one day then turn around and go back, that is tough. There are even motels very close we could make it a weekend thing. Ok we are starting to roll.

Monty what do you think about this??

I guess I'm gonna start shopping now!

It sounds good but I guess it depends on what our goals for the event are. I don't know what the park rules are concerning chickens so if this is gonna be a swap kinda thing then I am not sure how it would work.
If it is a get together and meet and eat and visit then it would be be fine.
If people are bringing birds then weather has to be considered.
I guess we need to decide what type event it will be.

also need to remember all the usda/oda rules.

kinda sucks when you follow all the rules, go thru all the hassle's, and then go somewhere and find a large swap/ flea mkt. that doesnt worry about following the rules, and the state doesnt seem to care.

but it is better to be safe than sorry!

by the way, oda is starting to enforce the rules a little bit more, not much but a little bit.

grace most of my babies hatching are rir with a banty or two and some cinnamon queens but mostly rir.. it's crazy but each batch kinda has there own little space.. ..i can't imagine any kind of get together with no chickens...and the park probably has some funky regulations but that area would be great from this end of the world.. i've been busy this afternoon carrying around a picture of the 1200.00 black silkie that sold on eggbid comparing it to my black silkies.. still can't figure out where i'm missing the boat.. maybe just maybe she's a little shinier..hmmmmmmm...

One of the best things I have ever found for keeping eggs clean in the nest can be purchased from eggcartons.com. (in fact, eggcartons.com is the only place I have found them) It is a pad made of excelsior that fits really well inside my nest boxes. They make the nest boxes easy to clean, the chickens like them and I find that the eggs don't get as dirty when I use these instead of wood shavings in the nest box. The other advantage is that the hens can't scratch these out onto the ground and then lay their eggs on the bare wood/metal bottom of the nest box. I have been waiting for this annual free shipping event to order some more. (see the post above from OKCarla)

Here is the info to look them up:

13" x 13" Excelsior Nesting Pads, #EP1313
