Why are Barred Rocks numero uno? What makes you like them the best?

p.s. I like the Buff Orps best from what is on your list. I don't currently have any pure ones left just some that look pure but whose mother had a crush on a Gold Campine rooster.

The BRs seem to be the most consistent layers in all conditions and have the most outgoing personalities. The Buff Orps are sweet but tend to broodiness, so I like the BRs better. They Barred Rocks don't seem to mind being picked up and petted, so I call them my "Show Chickens" because they're the ones I'll "show" people.

I am getting over my crush on Speckled Sussex - after reading more about what others who have them say, their egg size/production may not meet my stringent demands. They sure are pretty, though!

Am still very, very tired from Shawnee, but really wanted to post this.

I'm very impressed with the youngsters I saw at Shawnee. My limited experience with these kids--the hope of our future--at POOPS and Shawnee tells me their parents are doing a LOT of things right! Not ranking anyone, but have to start somewhere:

Grace; a very oustanding young lady--willing and eager to help and share information with anyone.

Roy and Clayton; enthusiastic, eager, and willing and ready to help.

Tristan; dedicated and hard working. Did you get to buy one of the splash silkies?

Tristan's sister (my terrible short-term memory doesn't remember your name); a lovely young lady, friendly and outgoing.

Charlotte; new to the group and a delightful young lady--friendly and eager to help and learn.

I know there were others there, but these are the ones I actually talked with.

Keep up the good work all of you!

Here is a picture of Corey's cockerel named Popeye which was the Best of Breed. He is really maturing quite nicely.

If you want some help offline, PM me.

Dandelion007 your Popeye is beautiful. I am still trying to put some pictures on "MyPage". I have uploaded some pictures. I know how to copy and paste but I can't find #3 on instructions...BYC editor "insert image" icon. Help me out.

My chickens are pretty humble. I would get laughed out at a show. However, they are real winners in the "CUTE" department. They put a smile on my face whenever I look at them. I am striving to get better. I like the silkied ones.

Hennie....I don't feel like you can say that the school system went down the tubes.....we can only do so much with what some parents give us to work with. We have so many rules, told what to teach, how to teach, when to teach. Unless you teach you have no idea the HOME problems that we have to deal with....and none of this is what the school chose.

I'm not saying the schools aren't at some fault....but you have to put the responsibility where it belongs. We don't get the type of kids we choose...we take them as whole, good, bad, and in between....and do the very best we can. The schools didn't create the problems children come to school with...we just try to fix them the best we can.

Most parents are wonderful....and work with you to be a team....but then there are some....and it doesn't take but a few to turn your room upside down.
