Watch it with the water! I live in the panhandle! We aren't used to that stuff. I'm a fat guy and that might give me a heart attack

Heck every time it rains my kids get scared and want to know what that stuff is...we drive past lakes or ponds and they just stare

has anyone ever heard of trying rabbit waterers in their brooders?
if you could ever train the chicks to drink from them, it sure would make it a lot less messy........ is that crazy? its just that they peck at everything, surely they could figure it out........?

I already have pigeon friends! Thank you very much!

About...well enough...I don't want to count them...I don't have enough fingers and toes! Plus then if my wife asked I would have to tell her.

I have heard of the rabbit waters working but somehting about it scares me! I use the pop bottle waters...they are fairly unmessy for caged birds.

I tried to find some in Oklahoma last year but had no luck. I tracked some down in Texas but they were a little steep for me since I was just gonna use them in a test breeding project. which I found out later wouldn't have worked anyway.

Well a chicken can't suck up water...so it seems they might struggle a little getting the water and that isn't something I want them struggling to get...plus the little balls have a tendency to get stuck if they are constantly getting pushed in and well you know chickens they like to play with stuff! Seems like they might start a game of seeing how fast they could empty the bottle! I don't know...I like the pop bottle waters!

Buckguy...I have a pair

...too big but man is the rooster a pretty thing! I think I found a person on the East coast with some that is willing to trade eggs or chicks! I might just be willing to share...maybe...depends on if the water cracks keep going!

What do you mean wouldn't work? What was your idea? I am reall wanting to do some stuff with them as well.

Have you seen the opals? I have some rejects from them that should be carrying the genes...they are phenotypically blacks

I get bogged down in genetics no matter how hard I try to figure it all out.
So with my limited grasp of everything I was still trying to develop a type of self blue Standard chicken and I was going to use a self blue bantam OEG roo.
I was told they only breed true when bred to another self blue.
Plus I was facing the size issue.
So when you say yours is too big, how big is he?
Not that I am ready for another project.

He is big for OEGB show birds...still way little for anything else. You are correct it is a massive recessive type gene thing or something...but it will come out when you breed it to like milli or other type...you get the blue in them and that is what I want!
