Hrm. The new cochin won't eat his yogurt. So I mixed it with crumble. Still won't eat it. How am I supposed to get his gut back to normal after the antibiotics he was on before he came here if he won't eat the yogurt?

I have not eaten any guineas myself, but my research indicates it tastes more like pheasant and that some restaurants offer it as a gourmet dish. I think the meat is all dark meat.

can you syringe some down his throat, or put a baby spoonful in the back of his throat and massage his throat until he swallows? The good thing about medicating chickens is that they don't have teeth, so if you can get something in their mouth you can stuff it down their throat with your finger. How about putting yogurt on bread so you have something solid to stuff down his throat?

Our birds eat EVERYTHING we give them...you shoulda seen them when halloween was over and we gave them the carved pumpkins that we had...it was comical~!

The thermo-cube is a plug--it has a temp sensor in it and turns the power on for you at 35 degrees and it shuts itself off at around 45 degrees (I cant remember the exact on/off temps...it's been awhile since I looked at one in the packaging). Anyway--the thing comes on to prevent freezing, and shuts off if it gets warm. We got ours at Tractor Supply for around $12...which is waaaay worth it in my opinion. We have the little heater plugged into the thermo cube. So far it it is perfect in the coop--not too warm; just comfortable...

We lost our power last night at 8:30 and it didn't come back on till about 6:30 this morning. I worried about our chickens all night because of the cold, but they were OK! Whew!

Well, we have the fireplace which we had an extra hot fire in--and at bedtime we snuggled in our micro-fiber sheets and down comforter...plus warm jammies helped! It was 40 in the house when we got up at 5--but showering in the dark AND cold was an adventure--BRRRRR! Thank goodness for the little LED lantern I bought last year for just this kind of occasion!

Apparently I'm dumb with 2 thumbs because not only is force feeding a chicken nothing at all like hand feeding a parrot, I ended up with yogurt, crumble, and bread everywhere. Little prima donna cockerel doesn't want anything to do with it.
