We gotta be able to bring birds...I personally could careless about the alcohol...a convienent place to stay would be great but can manage...most important to me is birds and food!!!

I agree with teach, we have to be able to bring the birds!! That is what brought us all together in the first place.
A good place for friends, food, fowl and fun!

My family can camp or motel it. So we can also manage.
I like the potluck dish idea. Everyone can bring something and we all throw it together and eat.

I would prefer if there WAS NOT alcohol, but this is just my opinion. Especially if there is going to be kids there. This is just an opinion of someone who grew up around way to many adults "enjoying" alcohol.

Called T-bird and have to call back and speak with Susan between 11 and 12 tomorrow to find out. I really cant see why they would not allow it. Getting eggcited here about this!!!!

Food, beverage of choice and birds with great friends, what more can one ask for.

Ok, I am back.
First let me say I am not promoting a kegger. I don't drink but I know there are some that like to have a beer.
In no way did I mean this to sound like it would be centered around what could be consumed.
Having said that, it seems like having chickens there is a big concern and we will certainly address that in the decision as to where we hold this event.
One concern with having it at Blanchard was that our "Okie BYC"
event would get lost in the auction hoopla.
Luvz and I both have talked to folks at Thunderbird and are awaiting word as if we can have chickens there.
The rest of the set up there would be very nice, whether you are spending the night or just want to have an all day thing.
I really appreciate all of the input. I have not appointed myself as the go to guy to organize this event.
We will be asking others to contribute in many ways. When I say we I mean everyone, so if there is something you want to do and get help get done let me/us know.
Teach and Al have both said they could bring smokers and grilling equipment. Lining up the food won't be a problem. Potluck side dishes and desserts sound great.
I am not planning any type of shows or demonstrations but if others want to that is great.
I know some of these events have chicken shows, egg decorating. feather crafts and the like.
Again if anyone wants to coordinate something like that, please do so.
I am going to be limited in what I can do to pull this off. I have knee surgery set for next Friday.
Keep the ideas coming and if you can let us know if you are planning to come.
That will help us get an idea on how many to expect.
We don't want to kill more than we can cook and eat.

I too don't drink unless you count the one beer every other month or so when we have Pizza.
It just goes together so well, other than that I never touch the stuff, I know many that do and that is OK as long as it's under control..as for food everyone should bring something to the party.

Birds are a must, if you don't want to sell, then bring something that not everyone else has..
like in school show and tell it doesn't have to be a show bird, any thing that has wings is fine with me..there are so many types of chickens that I have no idea what they look like.

I would really like to see it someplace besides an auction house.. just my 2 cents worth..

Don and Teach,
Bad news.
I had my unicycle in the shop for a tune up and someone broke into the place and stole it.

They left a Mercedes and a Porche so they knew just what they were after.

So I guess if I get to tour the King ranch I will have to find alternate transportation. Maybe something with four wheels.

stole your unicycle...how rude!

You don't need a vehicle to tour...in fact you can't...they have buses and do special tours in suburbans...they do have day hunts...couple of the guides are good friends...one of those TV hunting guys did an episode down there and killed a nailgi and anyways my friend was guiding him and the host made a comment about why do we keep trying to get close don't you trust my shooting...the response...I haven't seen you shoot yet...he isn't impressed with reputation just what he sees...awesome hunter though...has stalked and killed nailgi (very hard) once he shot and missed got back into position on the same animal and killed with the second shot...he is like a ninja

Well, I am reading over these posts and trying to decide what input I have.... I agree that we definitely need a meeting place that allows birds. Also, as long as our Okies deal was in the daytime, and the (possible) auction was in the evening, it shouldn't affect us in a bad way at all.
I will come up with some kind of bird-related contest for us, but if anyone wants to organize a different contest too, that is great!
Here are some possible contest ideas:
A 'regular-but-small' poultry show
Best dressed bird
Most unusual bird
Tell what is special about your bird(s)
Poultry art
....... and so on.

Sherri, I am glad the rooster is fitting in well

You didn't stay for the entire auction, did you! I actually would have loved to, but I didn't know if I could stay awake that long. Also, I am not interested in getting any more adult birds at the time.

The date we are planning this is April 11. So here is another thing to consider. That is Easter weekend Is that a problem for anyone.
Since people are planning to spend the night it could interfere with Easter plans.
Just another thing to figure out.
Monty

Grace: If you want to be in charge of a contest that is great.
