That's why I installed it while they were puppies. They will be well trained by the time they are big enough it will make a difference.

The main electric runs the perimeter of our property inside our field fencing on t-post insulators at various heights. There is no way a critter can get through that fence without touching one, and if it touches both the electric and the field fence, it will notice. I had the misfortune of touching both while the wire was hot and about ended up on my rear.

But the Pyrs are the focus. I just need to keep them in. Once they are fully trained adults, I don't expect much trouble from coyotes.

Buy more land... Put the chickens to work... Grin and bear it... Hatch and Release... (Sorry, I couldn't stop myself. It's for the fishermen.)

Focus on the healthy chicken you just put up. There's nothing like knowing where your meat came from. And just think, you saved money by not getting them processed.

Good Morning OKIES!!!
Been up for a while... Hubby left for work and Montana and Maw Maw are in the living room watching DORA..... Imagine that!!!

After Fletcher's Livestock Show on the 13th of February, We will be able to remove the bleachers and possible add a lot more chairs to the room.... We just havent been allowed to move them, since the school uses the barn twice a year for livestock shows, but they will be over until September for the year.... So we will have the run of the mill so to speak after that...

Come april or may we may move our sale out to the open barn where there is always a nice breeze flowing thru and more room for alot more people.... That will be a nice change... It is about twice or three times the size of the barn we are in now...

Well, hope everyone is having a great day!!!

Be careful that it is not overpriced, many are now trying to sell off land at way too high a price. If it is cultivated with improvements such as water and electric you can make it pay for itself but only at under 2000 an acre according to some of my customers. And that was when the cattle market was really good, I suspect it has dropped a little per acre now.

75 acres of good pasture will run about 35-40 head of cows. If they all have healthy calves they are worth about 250 dollars each at weaning time or 250-300 pounds or roughly 9000 dollars a year before expenses are taken off. If you cut hay off of it too you could probably pay for the place in 20 years depending on markets. With no out of pocket expenses. The cows should pay for themselves in two years.

The place right now is running cattle and its something Jason and I are eying and its been for sale for several months now... hard to say I love the country so bad that I am frustrated that when we bought this place sole intention of not living in SUBURBIA whola with in that first year homes were built like crazy...

What happened was a older lady had this property in her family for a very very very long time lots of acres... The daughters tried to get her to sell it.... She said Over My Dead Body... well she died and the Daughters sold it to developers and whola cookie cutter homes are popped up like CRAZY all with in 12 months... I understand maybe the daughters didnt want to run the farm ect ect but maybe I am just an old fashioned spirit to where I would have seen it go to someone who could have kept it in all its ranching glory

if you mean a minimum of 25 chicks you can get them you will either have to pay extra for less then full or have cockerels put in place of the difference for heating and movement issues for shipping

I know. That's why I haven't gone past considering it. I don't have room for extras. I have a very set amount I can have, I can't afford to house packing peanuts for both space and monetary reasons.

I know ... it's crazy, huh? I don't know why they're selling them in such large lots that regular folks can't touch. Heck, they're probably selling them to China & they'll turn around & buy land & put them on small lots and rent them out.

I have a fear, hopefully irrational, that China is going to take our country over some day. USA keeps borrowing money from them that will take a couple of generations to pay back already.

Are those the toxic FEMA trailers from Katrina? They can have 'em!

China and India are the next great economic superpowers. They might not own us so much as have a great deal of control over the economy of the entire world.
