Probably a smart move Ronnie, and good luck with the detox

. I set up the ag teacher with 120 chicken and 20 duck eggs this last week, so over the next 4 weeks he should have a bunch hatch.

Hey teach, church stuff huh? Then somebody brings up charity and shoots down the whole mood. Oh well, good luck.

NO!!!

I met the guy who runs it for the first time last time I went. Nice guy, seems like. But his sales barn is freakin' cold! I had to leave straight from work to get there and so wasn't dressed for outdoors. There weren't many birds, either, I assume because of the weather. The cold in the winter and the heat in the summer (with only one fan, and that pointed at the auctioneer) are my only complaints about Cement.

Well, not quite only. There is that auctioneer...

One thing about Fletcher is that it has at least a couple of heaters.

Depends on how he raises them, I reckon. They may not be pasture raised like you could raise them, and may have medicated feed etc. So, if those things don't matter to you, it would probably be the best deal. If he raises them on pasture, it would definitely be the best deal.

I raise mine because that way, I know how they are raised and what they ate.

And $2 a bird for processing is a great deal!

It's Will Rogers Downs, a Racino. They have horse racing and slots, but no table games or poker. It's located just outside of Claremore on hyw 20 East.

Hey y'all,

My hatches are looking pretty good so far.

Last week, this guy and 9 of his siblings showed up:

And yesterday, this one and 10 more came in:

Evan and I are pretty happy with the numbers we're getting. We should have some pretty good show prospects come Spring.

I asked Brian how the birds were raised and fed. He said that they are given a proprietary feed ration that's all veggie and are turned out to free range daily from 6am to 6pm. So they are not on pasture ALA Joel Salatin, but close.

He also said, no steriods, antibiotics, hormones, or animal by-products.

I have purchased their frozen chickens and been pleased. As it indicates on their home page, there are no hormones or animal byproducts in the feed. I have been told by someone who visited the plant that although the birds are not "herded" outside each day, they do have the opportunity to walk out a door into a yard and the space per bird is more than industry standards require. I don't think a Hubbard chick is exactly the same as a Cornish Rock, but it is a fast growing chicken. Did you ask them about purchasing day old chicks there at the DARP plant? I was quoted about 50 cents per chick, but I would have to pick them up. Even with that cheap price, I have come to the conclusion that as long as they will deliver frozen chickens to the OKC area every month or two, it isn't worth my time and feed to raise them myself.

They also deliver to the Tulsa area periodically, so it could be even less expensive if you were to order some for delivery in Tulsa - if their drop off location is closer to you than Gideon.
