Morning Okies! I finally got my "good" snow.

At least 7 inches, and its still snowing. Had to sweep a path across the deck and down the steps so the chichuachuas would go potty. They looked back over their shoulder like"You gota be kidding!"LOL:confused:
Look out at the pigeon loft and the startlings are streaming in.DANG BIRDS!

:rant my pigeons and chickens will be on short rations. They only get what they will eat in a few minutes. That means I have to feed them every couple of hours. Other wise the startlings take everything. Hope my baby pigeons"squabs" make it thru the single digits tonight. Most are feathered and should be okay.a couple are still in quills and I worry about them, they can chill in a matter of minutes if the parents leave them uncovered.

I put a heating pad around my modern game bantams perch. His long legs make his feet cold. He stands around like a flamingo with DTs. He is likeing the warm sitting place! Spoiled, never!lol:clap

The Cement Show was canceled as of yesterday. She said they will reschedule it but that date was not set yet. At the time of the call I got, the whole town was out of electricity.

Good morning everyone.

Just looking out my doors everything looks very good. We went white over night but the road doesn't look like any ice. This part of Oklahoma was very lucky.

Good Morning Okies....Well the storm is over....but oh how beautiful it is outside. I have loblollie evergreen trees and they are so beautiful. They are covered in snow and it is making them hand down a bit...gotta go outside in a while and take pictures. I know most people hate it when it storms but I LOVE snow.

Don't like having to take care of the birds in it but the beauty of it outweighs that. It could be worse. We could be having an earthquake like Haiti. Gotta look on the bright side.

Morning Everyone!

Glad to hear so many still have available power. I have been worried about everyone being safe and warm during this storm more then the last, since we got so much ice then a bunch of snow on top of it. Not good for the power lines. Has anyone heard from Mike??? Doesn't he live out in Al's part of the state? If anyone hears from him let us know.

The snow is beautiful but I hate trudging around in it. I think several of our trees are not going to make it. There is a couple of pines that are bent over so far they are or have already snapped. Got the birds and llamas feed and watered. I will have to go give them water later today. Cleaned out the fridge for some extra yummies for the chickens to munch on and they are all really happy with that. Most are staying in the coop but boy is it going to need to be cleaned as soon at the weather warms up.

Guess this is as good a time as any. Yah.....

Good morning guys,

Anyone get ahold of Stimpy yet and his family? I know Al has been accounted for and my family can pop on briefly when we have the generator running to warm up the house but I am concerned we have not heard from the Stimp man or at least from some one who can get to him to make sure they are doing well.

We lost one of our poop chicks last night, she was one of our girls that had started this nasty cold among the few of them... Had hoped for the best but expected the worse especially with the cold weather... After we found her dead we have gone ahead and moved the other chickens we knew that had colds into our house, they seem to enjoy the heat when we kick the generator on..lol I have to remind them not to brag to the chickens in the Hen house about their nights in the some what warmer house.

Anyhow Jason and I are hoping to head into Lawton and pick up a few things if we can locate them... again we dont expect to have electricity for several more days...

but we press on and are humbly reminded of the way my grandparents were raised and those befor them...

b52fizzle - I've got stray dogs harassing my chickens. They killed and ate all but the head and feet of one rooster and then tore the second rooster into a million pieces. Both roosters were in covered pens with an electric wire running around the base of each pen. The dogs yanked the electric fence charger box off the post and then pulled on the doors of the pens until they broke the hinges. The next day they skipped the pens and killed one of my guineas. I love dogs. I'm a dog owner. But I can't lose my flock to a couple of mangy mutts who've turned killing chickens into some sick game.

We also have a major coyote problem. I see three or four a day, in broad daylight, and the howling at night comes from all four directions. I've seen evidence that they're using our west fence line as a path to the neighbors pasture. I hope the neighbors haven't lost any goats.

Some time in the future I think I'll want to hunt deer. I know they are plentiful in this part of the country, and they sure do taste good. For now, though, the rifle would be a tool to defend my flock.

I already own and am proficient with a Smith & Wesson 357 magnum with a 4" barrel. I can keep my pattern inside the first three rings on the targets they have at firing ranges. I usually load bird shot and carry the revolver in the summer when I'm in the pasture. We've got a lot of snakes out here. For the dog problem, however, I've loaded 38s. Again, I hate the thought of shooting stray dogs, but this problem will only get worse unless the dogs are killed or frightened enough to prevent their return.

Does anyone know if the power goes out, do the cell towers lose power too, or are they backup powered by generators? It would make sense that no one's cell phones would work if the cell towers have no power at all--at least to me anyhow!

I can tell you that AT&T cell phone's dont go down. At&t has portable generators that are put on site to keep the service from going down. Although the battery on his phone may have went down by now. As for his house phone, if he only had cordless phones then he would loose those also.
