Thanks b52fizzle and Teach for the input on the .243. DH will make the final decision, but in the mean time I want to learn as much as I can so that I can discuss the choice with confidence.

Neighbors came by to see if everything is okay here. Nice folks. They know DH has a tiny hybrid car, so they wanted to be sure he hadn't gotten it stuck in the snow. When I told them he's in New Mexico for work, they suggested he stay there a few extra days to avoid the snow.

I got a grand total of one egg today. A Salmon Faverolles hen laid an enormous egg, and she was just leaving the nest as I came into the pen, so it was still warm. My babies in the barn are turning cartwheels and begging to come out and play. If they only knew how cold it is they'd be sitting under the heat lamp, complaining of a draft. It's storms like these that make me want to move all my chickens into the barn. Anybody have plans for converting a barn for poultry? I had a thought about pens inside with access to covered runs outside. There's enough room on the east and west sides of the barn for 10'Xwhatever' runs to match up to pens inside. It would be heavenly to feed and water without having my hat fall over my eyes or my hands freezing to the point that my fingers won't move. And skylights, yeah skylights, so that there's ambient light in the barn to keep the hens laying even when it's cold.

I believe Grace will be going to Pryor. My family is definitely planning on it. We have been as far as Fayetteville, AR. So up to a 4 hour drive is okay. For the right show, we might be willing to go further.

I could scan the Pryor catalog for you. I haven't done it yet though. I could get it to you tomorrow night. After that there is a show in Pine Bluff, AR.

I definitely look forward to meeting you!

Oklahoma Corporation Commission rules require landline telephone companies to have generators in their central offices to maintain electricity in case of power outage, which is why you have landline service even in a power outage. The challenge for them comes when the power outage is so long that they have to continue to refill tanks with gasoline in order to keep the generators going. When there is a widespread power outage, it can become difficult to find gas stations that are able to dispense gasoline, since they are also without power from the grid.

Power outages caused by "Acts of God" limit the requirement that the landline company keep service available

165155-13-22. Emergencies
(a)All telecommunications service providers shall make adequate provision for
emergencies in order to prevent interruption of continuous telecommunications service
throughout the area it serves.
(b) Central office(s) shall have an emergency power source, either on the premises or
available on short notice.
(1) Central office(s) shall have available emergency standby AC generators to avoid
interruption of normal service caused by failure of AC commercial power except
when caused by acts of God.

If a wireless company is receiving funding from the Federal Universal Service Fund, then they too are required to maintain electric service at their cell sites, although they would have the same problem as landline companies when the generators need to run for long periods of time.

165:55-23-27. Emergencies
All wireless ETCs shall make adequate provision for emergencies in order to prevent
interruption of continuous ETC telephone service throughout its Supported Service
area.

During some of the ice storms in '07, a couple of landline companies had problems with folks breaking into the more remote central offices and stealing the generators.

There isn't a thing in the world wrong with that!!! We just need to figure out how to rig the drawing for the quilt at POOPS!!!

So, who gets to decide the person in whose favor the drawing will be rigged? Fowl!!!

Thanks, Grace! I got it.

Grace, thanks. I got it too. I'm dealing with an egg bound pullet right now, then I will try to getmy worthless, no-good printerto work.

Dandelion007...Pine Bluff for sure too far for me. Pryor to far, but if I don't go there, I won't ever get to go anyplace.

Got to tend my little chickie...

Being totally lazy here.....thankful that we made it
through this one "with" electricity, tending the pellet
stove and watching the birds attack the seed out
front. The cardinals are beautiful against the snow.

Pa-Pa and TJ are out playing in this mess. TJ has
made him a couple of paths down the hill beside
the house and took the wheels off his skateboards
and is skiing down the hill........Hopefully he won't
end up in the creek.

Bill talked to Al earlier. Obviously that area took
the brunt of this storm. He doesn't have a
generator, but does have a kerosene heater
and a cook stove, so they are doing OK. He
said he had been to town and there were
power lines down all over the place. The
electric guys said that they had thousands of
homes without power in Lawton and would be
working on that area first. That's par......
you try to make your nest out in the country
where it's halfway peaceful and you get moved
to the end of the list.

Y'all take care and stay warm and Have a Good One !

Well great!!! We go thru this whole storm and everything is fine, then just now our power goes out. Talk about fun. Called CVEC and they said they are working on some of the substations in our area and might have had to turn it off.
