I thought I remembered meeting you Poco!

Poco and I traded Polish chickens and guineas at the last POOPS. She showed me a very clever way to make a give-away carrier, with a cardboard box and some chicken wire fastened on top.

That type of carrier sounds quite handy!

Other than all the mud, it's about cleaned up. The fallen branches are pretty well stacked out of the way and those that are just waiting to fall are far enough out of the way that they don't present much danger.

It never seemed to phase the birds, they kept laying right thru the worst of it.

When acts of kindness are given in times and in ways such as these I enjoy hearing about them it helps remind me there are still good in folks.

I also believe it is a testimony to the kind of person your FIL was to others.

Start with a handwritten note and then maybe you can do something like a plate of homemade cookies or if you know of a particular interest they have, you can try to find something that compliments that interest. Sounds like this person thought very highly of your FIL and this is their way of doing something in his memory. A gift giver like that doesn't need anything that costs money, but they might appreciate something that they can't do for themselves or something handmade/homemade.
My husband would much rather have a homemade pie from a widow lady he has done some handy-man-work for than a gift of cash, since he gave his time and talent as a gift, rather than as a business deal.

Jeannie, you have been busy finding the right smiley icons and a new avatar with motion.

I am a graphic hunter queen, the avitar is a graphic I have had for a couple of years now in my computer... I used to decorate my blog templates like crazy with all sorts of graphics and what not... I have a "chat box" on my website blog with a few smilies that are silly... I had a whole bunch at one time I had to clear room for other ones...

My hens aren't laying very well right now. Any secrets you want to share regarding lights and protein levels or pictures of frying pans?

Wow Shavon - that really is beyond kind! Made me tear up just reading about it. I agree with P&B that a heartfelt written thank you is a great idea - you could even write in the card that you're at a loss to know how to thank this person for his generosity, and that you will look for ways to pass the same kindness he has shown your family on to others.

I don't know, Stimp - the same thing happened to me. I think there is a wave of generosity moving through our thread and it landed on you!

But enough about that - I'm excited to find out what you're going to pick for your slogan...kind of scared, but excited!

If you didn't win a contest you entered on BYC, then someone must have gifted you with a membership. I don't know how I acquired mine either, but I sure do thank them for the extra storage space for messages. As I recall, I went to the Golden Feather section once I decided what my "byline" should be and requested that it be added - and "poof" within a short time, there it was.
