OOOPS I hate to just jump in here after being gone so long but....did I read there is going to be a POOPS this spring???

I need to separate some birds and make some room, I have a few nice Dark Blue Silkie roos and also some Black Pullets and Blue Pullets to go with them.

And one really BIG Naked Neck pullet, [barred rock color] !!!!!

I'm looking for a few little Seramas to go with my young roo, is anyone going to bring Seramas to any sales or to POOPS?

I missed the snow this AM, nice cloudy day today!!! Ready for spring to spring!

They play hard and they sleep hard. What color are your serama? They are spunky little guys, aren't they?

The silkied cock and smooth feathered hen are black. The cock has some brown showing on him, the hen is glossy black with a green feather sheen. My silkied hen is gold or buff colored with black tips in her tail.

I have never been able to artificially incubate any serama eggs.

I'll bet they are pretty. You seem very "chicken savvy" what seems to be your incubation problem? How many have you tried? I was losing some right at hatch time...I believe a too wet problem...at 40-50% humidity. I have backed down...actually doing "dry incubation" and only adding water when it gets below 25%. "They" say that 50% hatch rate is normal in serama. I am not satisfied with that and expect to do better.

They did answer you on Pryor. It is a bantam poultry show it starts at 8:30 am on Sat morning, it will most likely go most of the day.

The Pryor show is next weekend, March 6th.

Yes sorry I meant to say that.

Yeah I think this is what I was confused about. However, I have been to class last night, didn't get home till close to midnight, was up till after 3am and I just couldn't remember why I was confused about Pryor, LOL. So is Blanchard the only thing going on this weekend. I am probably going to Collinsville and get a few chickens from Chuck and then I was thinking about heading somewhere else for a chicken auction, or I will go to Kansas to visit a friend. I just haven't decided yet, but I am trying to figure out all of my options.

Oh I forgot to ask does anybody know what is on consignment for the Blanchard auction this weekend? Does anybody know if there will be an incubator? I am thinking about getting a bigger bator. Either that or I make a new one, but I have been just so busy I don't know if I have the time to make a new one.

Last year I was hatching with a hovabator genesis, this year I've been running a sportsman. However, my darlings haven't started laying for me so I haven't been able to test it out on them yet. I had no problems hatching everything else, just the serama and I generally ran the incubator on the dry side. For hatch time, I'd try and keep the humidity no more than 60%. Maybe it was the age of the birds? They weren't even a year old at the time.

I'm using a genesis (with turner) and cushioning to keep each egg from bouncing around. No problems at all from early-on or mid-term dead in shell...just a few that were to wet at hatching time. I've heard that the vibrations from the Sportsman are too much for serama. I haven't tried it.

No precip here today, just dreary looking. Sounds
like, if we can hold on, next week looks SUPER !

Guess favorites around here would be the OEGBs,
New Hampshire Reds, and Cochins.

We're not really hard-core hatching yet, but have
several Baby Hueys in clear boxes in the livingroom.
Gees, these Standard Blue Cochins and the
Standard Buff Orpingtons look 3 weeks old when
they come out of the egg !!!...and you can almost
watch them grow.

I've tried the Cornish/Rock birds that you buy at
the grocery, but have never tried just straight
Cornish before. Other than just seasoning and
baking in a slow oven, any suggestions as to
how to fix them? Am thinking about getting a
Bantam White Rock and putting him with a
few of the Bantam Cornish hens. Bill took
18 Cornish over to the processor yesterday.
Guess we'll be giving it a try this weekend.

Have a good one !
