i am clueless, she was fine an hour before, she was only a year old, her crop was empty, no egg, and a purple comb- any ideas on that?

Some of the prettiest Rhode Island Red bantams I've ever seen were those raised by a man in Noble, OK. He's passed on now, and for the life of me I can't recall his name (must be the meds). I had a string of them back in the 80's before I moved toward LF and left the bantams alone. If you know Harold Treat, from Noble, he can tell you the gentleman's name. They were good friends.

Easter was good here. Long and tiring, but good. I would love to have some Bantam RIR. In fact, if anyone has a good LF RIR rooster, I wouldn't mind having another one of them as well. I need one that is people friendly. I'm about to shoot my current one. I am about tired of him trying to attack Lauren. She is afraid to step out the back door because he is always watching for her. I figure it won't be so bad after we move because he will be confined to a pen, but I don't know if he will make it that long. I also wouldn't mind a few LF RIR hens to add to the flock.

Good point about space. I think if space was an issue for me, I would probably feel differently about them. And a good point about the hobby.

I'm funny about this sort of thing, though. Even my hobbies have to have a secondary purpose. I read a lot, but even as much as I love it, the bulk of it has to be something I can turn around and use.

I can't even bring myself to keep a pet that isn't practical. My dogs protect the property and the animals, and the cats kill mice and rats. For a brief time we had a couple of yippy dogs that were cute as all get out, but quickly rehomed them because we couldn't think of a good reason to have them.

We won't own a horse, even as cool as they are, unless we get to a point where we want to use them as draft animals.

Kinda depressing when I think about it.

Purple comb on young meat birds usually points to a heart attack and is somewhat common, but I don't know why it would happen to a young heritage bird. Congenital defect maybe? Was she fat at all?

Or maybe she choked on something? Lack of oxygen?

Does someone need to practice or complete a counseling session for class credit or something like that?

Why yes, someone would. I have to have several sessions, and I have asked everyone I know, and well most say no. I still need at least 1 person under 18 and 2 people over 18, preferably female however, not that picky.
