Purple comb on young meat birds usually points to a heart attack and is somewhat common, but I don't know why it would happen to a young heritage bird. Congenital defect maybe? Was she fat at all?
Or maybe she choked on something? Lack of oxygen?
Hi, no she wasn't fat, but she was quite a bit bigger than my other BO, and had some feathers on her legs- i thought of heart issues too- just hatchery stock, so there's no telling on the breeding either, checked her throat, couldn't see any blockage- they do get out a few hours a day, so maybe she got into something...... poor rooster spent an hour crowing for her and the others kind of milled about- can't tell me they are attached to one another in their little chicken brains... sigh
