Super coop is looking good and full of babies but
still needs painting. Now we have to get back on the
LARGE run for the adults to keep that fun and safe.
The brooder is down to two palm chicks and ONE
polish chick... Maybe a trip to atwoods will tide me over
until we get to poops... ?
Loves that castle posted back a few picks... And welcome
to all you new peeps....

Hope everyone had a great Easter.

Yesterday, I discovered Titus the Wonderpup being, of all things, a DOG! I caught him in the coop - up in a nest box looking for eggs. He saw me see him through the coop window and got out before I could get over and catch him in the act. Man, was I mad! I reminded him that he's not allowed in the chicken run, much less the coop. Titus replied that because it was a Holiday, he and Hens were playing a game of Find the Easter Eggs. He said he thought he deserved to have some fun since I never get him the live Bunny that he asks for every Easter. I'll be monitoring him much more closely whenever he's outside and the chicken run gate is open from now on.

The chorus of Johnny Cash's song "Dirty Old Egg Sucking Dog" was in my head the rest of the day. Everybody now!
"Egg-suckin' dog
I'm gonna stomp your head in the ground
If you don't stay out of my hen house
You dirty old egg-suckin' hound"

Okla-Doodle-Doo sent some photos to share with us! These are the bantams he picked up at the Amish auction in Tennessee this weekend.

Too bad I can not do mini birds like that because I really like how those comets look.
Well I have a big paper due in a couple of weeks but I need to get it finished by next Monday, so I will not be on BYC as much.

I only do standard also but I am breaking down......
I have my eye on some and I am just thinking maybe I should try again....

I didn't know Golden Comets had a following. I have three hens I got as part of some heavy breed layer collection from Murray McMurray. One of them is the nosey type. She has to be in on what ever I am doing and taste it if possible. I can carry her around and let her pick in the yard as I do work and she stays right with me. She is a horrible tail feather picker and I sometimes think about getting rid of them because of that reason alone but the still lay pretty well.

Yadda Yadda..........

I keep standards rather than bantams only for egg production reasons. I did get some bantam chicks at Atwoods this year, though. Their Foo Power overcame me and and bought three frizzle cochin bantams and two silkies. It was several days before I came to my sense and remembered that I don't really care for white chickens (aka "hawk bait") or broody hens. I'm donating a couple of them to the POOPS raffle and I haven't decided about the others yet.

Here are photos of the Black Silkie (or is it Blue? - I can't tell) I am donating to the POOPS raffle, and the Frizzle Cochin cockeral that is also being donated.

Beth, I have both, but I prefer my standards over the bantams. The little birds are neat and cool, and of course the kids love'em because they're small and easy to handle (usually), but a lot of the time they tend to not look porportional. I like my big birds, even if they do eat twice as much or more (depends on the breed) than the little bantams. Just somethin' about looking out in the yard and seeing those big beautiful feathered velociraptors.
