I just had the best surprise! I won a contest I'd forgotten that I entered!

A couple of months ago I was browsing the Hobby Farms Magazine website and noticed a beautiful chicken print apron that could be won, so of course I completed the requirements right away and wished myself the best of luck

I quickly forgot about it, though, of course until I checked my email today!

Here is the article I wrote for my entry:

Congrats on those!

I knew I should have gone to my sister's in Hartshorne this weekend! I wanted to go to the Italian Festival in McAlester and soooo would have gone to the show in Eufaula!

Ugh, I always miss the good stuff

Thank you! I'm sorry you were not able to come by this show. If you can keep up with this Okies forum (which is a hard thing to do!), you should be kept up to date on the local poultry shows.

No, but be careful about inhaling that stuff. It's bad for the lungs & mucous linings of your respiratory tract.

Wear a respirator!

Which one is bad to inhale?

More POOPS babies have arrived! I had 20 hatch today, and there are about ten or fifteen more pipping. The first to hatch was a pure white Ameraucana. I hope it turns out to be a pullet. Good luck hatching, everyone.

Both.

The lime would be the worse of the two, I believe.

Grace - that is a wonderful story and I was laughing out loud at the visual. Of course, it brought back memories of my first cake that I made for a scout merit badge in cooking, and the chocolate batter that spattered everywhere (including on Mom's white blouse that she was wearing for the first time that day) when I raised the beaters out of the cake mix to read the instructions - without turning them off.

Congratulations on winning the contest.

Well I have decided that I need to pay closer attention to detail.

1. My Rouen ducklings are NOT Rouen. In fact, they are Mallard. This really doesn't bother me except I really wanted pure eggs for once. Andrew actually wanted Mallards, but they didn't have them last year when we got our first ducks.

2. I thought my eggs were supposed to hatch at the end of this week, but in fact they started hatching this morning and they were still in the turner. So far I have one Serama and one RIR that have hatched. The RIR are from Peaches POOPS eggs and the Serama are some that my pair have produced.

3. Laurens birthday is this next week and I haven't planned a single thing because I thought I had another week, although one week probably wouldn't help me at this point.

4. My kids have a dentist appointment tomorrow that has been on my calendar for 6 months and I forgot. I have to go to the doctor in the morning, come home to babysit, go back to town for the kids' appointment, and then go to work.

5. I currently have too many babies for my brooder and I still have more hatching! I really need to sell some of these babies. I wish there was an auction close enough for me to go to this weekend.

Went to gather eggs to put in the incubator. One of our Porcelain OEGB pullets was killed by another snake! (Steph, we still have the pair plus the project pair) The slime was still wet on her head. I evacuated everyone from the area (Pyncheon, Porcelains & Quail) and then started hunting. Sure enough I found it!

Dandelion - 3 (3 dead snakes)
Snakes - 2 (2 dead chickens)

I spent a lot of time indoors because I chicks hatching (6 as of now in the incubator). While gathering eggs, I found our Creole OEGB has 3 hatched today. She has 6 more eggs.

They are Creole & Ginger Red. Hmmm, both pure, not mixed. I have to fix something for her though. I'm thinking rabbit wire for everything!

I thought I had some rabbit net but I haven't found it. I'm heading to town now to get a few rolls. I'm throwing wads everywhere. I'm just going to have to do several checks every night to get these things under control.

You have quite a story yourself! The things our moms put up with! - Even when we are "trying" to do something good
