Yes it sounds like the very first stage of a time-consuming highly addictive hobby. Oh don't bother trying to change your ways either as it is uncurable and trying to deny the progression of the addiction will only result in mental anguish that is worse then the addiction itself.

Personally I refer to what you are doing as "bug ball" and have found through the years that Junebugs last the longest when put into play and are the most easily caught as they are slow.

The Jones outside sale is today and it starts about 1pm, commonly known as the "junk" sale as they have items of all types from fencing to as Al says, grandma's shoes. Shannon's snack bar is well worth the stopping there as she usually has a very good special and makes a mean loaded baked potato.

Good morning Okies. I've almost got all the chickens fed and watered. Already, I'm completely soaked with sweat. I thought a cold front was supposed to of hit last night... We are converting a couple of pens into rabbit hutches today and dipping all the chickens (AGAIN) for mites. Horrible what can be dragged in so easily!!!

I think I'm going to start dipping everyone when we return from every show and before a new bird can come on the place. But wild birds can also bring the critters in too, right? I'm already adding rabbit wire to all the pens so I guess that will take care of that possibility.

I've been seeing the awesome pens everyone has been making. This is such a talented bunch.

I saw that Betsy is coming to the Wednesday NPIP Tester Class. Is anyone else coming?

One of my Houdan Roosters is having trouble walking, he'll take a few steps and looks like he's drunk but then he just falls over on his side and that's where he stays. He's loosing his feathers and is rather cold.
Is it heatstroke or something else I am unfamiliar with?
Is there any way to fix this?

Donna! You could have called me! I would have come to get you and we could have hung out for a while until you felt better. I used to walk around LaFortune when I lived in that part of town - you're right - there is no shade! Congratulations on getting through that walk - on the hottest day of the year, no less! Good luck next week - you are doing a great and wonderful thing for yourself - hang in there and soon it will be easy!

I know what you mean about family. I can stand them for a couple of days, after that, they have to go.

I'm feeling ok. I wish spring could have held out for a few more weeks. I guess this is the heat that we were all wishing for during the ice storms last winter.

Hi Wayne...Yeah there were alot of good buys yesterday at Chupps. I'm glad I didn't take any chicks or chickens to the sale. They were low. There were some barred rock chicks about six weeks old that went for .25 cents each, with some boxes containging more pullets than roos. Alot of good looking birds went dirt cheap.

I wasn't looking to buy any poultry, I have way too many RIR's right now. I couldn't help it, I bought two trios of buff brahmas. Don't know a thing about them except they look good to me and went for 3.00 per head. I also bought four good looking mini rex rabbits. Real dark brown. I haven't had rabbits in years and never a rex. I blame the grandkids, but truth be known I do it for me too.

Out in the field I got a commercial built quail house with metal frame and 30 wire compartments. I might try to rig it for old english. Looks like its pretty new. A bucket full of different tools for 5.00. A pet carrier for 15.00. Several small items for a dollar or two. It was so hot that they were moving 5 auction crews full speed through the field. They would pick a 10 or 15 foot section of a row and sell a few things and then throw it all together and sell for next to nothing.

Sometimes we don't buy anything, just go for the trip and mess around. The quail thingy took up alot of the truck bed. I could have loaded my flatbed pretty good yesterday with low prices like they were.

Stimp, that's how I feel about the grandkids. After a few days I'm ready for them to go home to mom and dad. That lasts for about one night and then I'm whining to Sue that I wantem back.

Hiya Fellas!

I'm with you Stimpy - I would have preferred just a few more days of weather in the 70s or at least low 80s before we got to 95. But at least it's humid...

Sorry about the MIL Wayne. My folks always said family visits are like dead fish - it all starts to stink in about 3 days.

Hey Brick! I have a Q for you: do those awesome fantabulous "real" RIRs lay as well as the hatchery RIRs? I have a couple of the hatchery type, and they are good layers.

I had planned to Polly Wolly Doodle all the day, but I need to get out and mow the front and weed the garden. Usually I would do this stuff early in the day - before 10:00 but I have a dead tree rotting down in the back of my property that has started dropping big limbs, so I spent this morning clearing that up in preparation for the rest of it to come down.

Okay, I noticed a few of you all posted recently about buying birds from or selling birds to people in Duncan. Are these people actually in the city limits, or do you know of other poultry-raisers who are?
We are seriously looking to move to Duncan (maybe via renting) starting asap. But the biggest road block we've found is that, from what we've heard, you can only have 3 chickens in the city limits unless you own more than an acre, then you can have a whopping total of 5 chickens.
I really really really do not want to have to sell that many of my birds! I mean, I might could get down to 3-5 breeds, but birds?? No way.
So can anyone local to there give us any info that may be helpful with this deal?
Thanks!
