We got some heavy rain last night. I lost two cochin chicks and may loose a third, I guess I couldn't see their little brown feathers against the dirt. I think I am taking after P&B, I just got them out in the pen on Sat for the storms to come.

Jeannie, with the auctions so close I would never order chicks if I were you! Glad you guys are all making it okay!

Morning everyone. Another hot and muggy day here. Chance of rain showers again. Guess I'll stay in and clean house and do the ironing . Tried setting a broody but she quit when I moved her so I put her back in her pen and will see if she tries again. Chicks seem to be doing pretty good concidering the heat and humidity.Garedn is growing real good as are the weeds!lol. Have about six colors od daylillies in bloom. Hope you all are drying out but our weather showed you may get more rain today. Take care.

We finally got hit by the rain last night. Hard. All the critters pulled through just fine, although I was out in the thick of it at 10 PM rounding up some dumb poults too stupid to come in out of the rain.

A real soaker for our parched earth.

I'm happy.

I love BUFFS>>>>
That said all is well in my neck of the woods. We had our share of rain
but we are on top of a hill so we just got some run off. My coops look
dry as they are off the ground and the runs held their own.
However before the rain we found a young chicken stuck in the fence.
It was where two pieces were ran together. He was in them and another
chicken was plucking his scalp off. YUCK... I think its to the scull. So I put
some antibiotic ointment on it and he is in the house in a box with food and
water. I did give some Vit. B and some antibiotic in his water. Did i miss anything
you guys?
Then you all know AnnaBell wants a bator so bad she cant help herself. I am just
up to my neck in chickens. Uncles driveing threw with 100's... Like we need
a bator... Anyway the Oklahoma county 4-H has a bunch of them they loan out to
schools in the spring. She saw them I guess and when I went in to pay for some camps
she asked to check one out. Went on with her storys of turkeys hatching polish chicks....
So they said she can come back and ask again this week... So looks like she is getting her way
after all. I may need to buy some eggs as I just put mine on wormer....
Take care everyone and stay safe... Oklahoma has had a ruff year...

Mornin' everyOkie! Rained last night and quit sometime early this morning - but it is WET out there. And the grass is tall...

Hey Chicks & Chis - I was thinking for a bit that I may have met you - chef in midtown & all - but the names of the two chihuahuas are not the ones I know, and although my Midtown Chef friend has lived in England, I don't believe her hubby is English...

Good Gosh,

I finally get an opportunity to check in with all you "chicken people" and nobody is on here.

Just hoping that nobody drown with that downpour yesterday. Been reading that several coops

are under water. Hopefully all birds and people made it through.

Hey, I think I made a record. To my knowledge, I haven't hurt anyone's feelings this week. It

could be that I haven't been on here very much either.

We had dinner at Apache last night with Barnswallow and Jason and crew. Had a great time and

partwyan may not have been there but he sure ate his share plus some.

I am delighted that you got some much needed rain without being flooded.

As to "dumb poults" I have never been able to find anything in writing that confirms the theory that turkeys will drown in a rain storm because they look up and catch too much rain into their mouths/lungs, but I have had poults drown because they stayed under a turkey hen who was roosting on the ground in an area that had water collect around her. If you ever find anything "scientific" about turkeys drowning in the rain, I would love to read it.

@ Perryspeeps

The last time we bought Chick Starter there it was just under 9 dollars a bag (about a month ago).

We've been getting ours at Tractor Supply in Shawnee lately (we've been buying allot of other bags of feed as well
- it just works out best for us); it runs around 9 as well. But in a pinch, we'll run to D&D in a hurry. lol - I have a hard
time calling it King's Supply; it's been D&D forever.

Thanks for reminding me of the name of the feed store in Harrah. I knew that Monty mentioned it awhile back, but wasn't sure that D&D, which is listed in the phone book, was the same feed store he likes. $9 for a back of chick starter would be a lot better than the $12 - 14 I am paying for a 50 lb bag of Purina chick starter at Lumber 2 or the $12-13 I am paying at Cross Brand Feed for BlueBonnet chick starter. I am going to call Kings Supply today and price rabbit feed. If they have a variety of rabbit feed I like, it would be worth going a few miles out of my way to give them my rabbit feed/chick starter/laying pellet/all flock raiser business.
