ELGIN - A trip to the bank Monday morning ended in gunfire that left a local couple dead.
Elgin Police Chief Carl Bremenkamp said 40-year old Diane Dye died of multiple gunshots to the chest, and her husband, 42-year-old Raymond Dye, died of a single self-inflicted gunshot to the chest.
Bremenkamp said Diane Dye had gone to the bank for business. When she came out, Raymond Dye pulled up in his truck and blocked her yellow Camaro in its parking spot in front of the bank.
"He tried to drag her into his vehicle, but she fought back," Bremenkamp said. "It was then when he pulled out a gun, shooting her, and then turned the gun on himself."
Divorce papers filed; protective order
Diane Dye filed for divorce last month and sought a protective order against her husband, according to court records.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agent Richard Goss said a report of shots being fired at the Elgin Bank of the Wichitas was received at 9:55 a.m. He added that members of the Elgin Police Department secured the scene and then the OSBI was called in to help investigate the crime.

She had been a teacher in the school system since August, 1999. Raymond Dye was an 18-year firefighter and lieutenant with the Lawton Fire Department. The Dyes owned Sooner Plaza, located behind the Bank of the Wichitas, along with Pride Fitness and Tanning in Sooner Plaza. According to court records, Diane Dye filed for divorce on July 8 and at that time also requested a protective order against Raymond Dye. The order was issued on July 12. On July 16 the order was modified to allow Raymond Dye to live in their home in Elgin until further order of the court, except from 8 a.m. July 22 until 8 a.m. July 24, when Diane Dye would have access to the home. In her application for the protective order, Diane Dye said that her husband "has repeatedly threatened me saying he would kill me." She said she had asked him to move out of the house, but he had refused, and that "I fear that he will have a violent reaction when he receives divorce papers." A hearing on the order was scheduled for July 29.
Oh yeah, guys...good morning! I am still trying to catch up on my post reading. Darn this job is getting in the way of my BYC time LOL!
Vern has had a bad toothache for about a week now. When we went to get the free shed we got from Craigslist on Friday evening, it was hard for him because it hurt so bad and the heat was scorching! So, he suffered all weekend and went home early from work yesterday to keep a heating pad on his jaw. Anyway, poor Vern had the bad tooth pulled this morning, so he is down for the count.
Last night we had a roast chicken that I bought raw/frozen from our little Farmer's market here at Saints on Friday afternoon. It was sooooo yummy! It was processed at the plant in Talequah. Trying to support the little guy!
That is so sad about the Elgin murder/suicide. How scary that must have been...
I think that this weekend wil be a shed-raising weekend! Hopefull if it does rain, it will rain during the night!
MMPoultry..I hear ya it is so hot for the birds! We have basically made a tarp-city for the chickens to help them get more shade...it is blasted hot out there. This is why I am still hunting more shade producing things...old carports, etc...I need to help my poor girls out; I hate to see them panting and even worse is when the hens are laying...they are so miserable! But we have LOTS of fans set up to help with air circulating.
That's great that you've got a line to Doc now. My DH often travels for work and can't be reached because he's in areas of military bases that have security restrictions. Is there an auction this Saturday night in Fletcher? If there is, when do birds need to be checked in?
