Okies in the BYC The Original

Soooo Okie peeps, what's on for this weekend? I am still fighting off this pneumonia thing...so I am going to try not to do too much, but it is so hard not to when we have "free" time (well, not at our regular jobs anyway
lol.png
) and have so many projects to either begin or finish up since we have those U.F.O.'s (Un-Finished Objects) hanging around!
gig.gif
Come on, you know you have them too!

Wew need to roof the turkey coop, make the turkey pen, finish the walkway that we tore up when we put in the water line in May, and throw in all of our regular chores.

HELP! I have a question: I have been wanting to streamline our chicken chores as much as I can. My best idea of how to do this is to make watering faster and easier. I have been looking at the auto-water systems out there, and there are lots to choose from. Does anyone here have experience with those? I wouldn't want to get something that is more of a pain than it is worth, or waste our money on something that doesn't work well. Anyone have any ideas?

Good Morning Everyone!

Had a good time last night at the Tool Auction. They had a lot of John Deere, Case, Newholland Tractor Toys for kids, and collectors.

Got to work Alex sale tonight. Everyone knows I am the ticket clerk. No birds really to take. But still enjoy the visiting with folks.

Hot Dog has his 1st actual dental appointment today. The last time we took him, he wouldn't even open his mouth for anyone last time.

Got to also try to get my oil changed today. What a busy day!

I know, it is a slow day...hope everyone is having fun somewhere!

I figure that we will shut off an auto water during the winter and use heated dog bowls that we already have, especially since they drink so much less in winter also. I just want to try and do something different as we do chores for about 1 1/2 hours each evening, and watering is a big part of that. Anything to cut down on that would help...especially when it is so hot...and I want to be inside when it's as hot as it is. Early morning and evenings are the best for doing chores...then I hide inside when it is the heat of the day!

Hey Carah glad to hear your cousin is doing better...prayer is indeed powerful!

sgtmck1--glad to hear you will be getting your back surgery done...now you just have to get everything (whatever it is) done before your surgery!

The last Durant auction definately seamed to be a sellers market! I left early, because everything I was interested in was just going too high. And when they mailed me my check, I was even more surprised at the prices my stuff brought! I sold a couple-month-old Pekin duck pair for more than a year-old, laying, waterfowl-champion pair of my Pekins brought at the last auction

But I guess that's what makes auction so fun, it's always a surprise!

Morning Folks!

All this talk of lions is so odd. about 6 months ago we had a lynx hanging around in the area (like in my yard!

) Uli came in one evening and asked me what kind of cat is as big as a german shepard but had a short stumpy tail. I laughingly said a lynx, and asked why. His reply was "cuz I saw one walk across the yard just now".

Darn thing took three full grown turkeys off a 7 ft fence in a weeks time. Finally moved on, thank goodness.
Talking to the feedstore guy a few weeks after the incident and he said that the park rangers had released about a dozen in the area a few months prior.

Supposedly to get the dear population under control. Duh! Animals like that will not go after hard to catch animals they go after livestock. I did call the animal wildlife people about it and go some vague answer about previous spottings but no confirmed cases, etc, etc.

Also could not comment on what the park board does, yada, yada, yada.

I totally understand about looking a sheds and buildings in other peoples yards and thinking about what a cool coop it would make. Of course I am always scooping out cool stuff and thinking of different ways I could use it for the chickens. Uli is always laughing at me when I see stuff and make a comment on what I would use it for. I just can not help it.

Well I need to get my butt outside and get some work done but I do not want to. It is already getting hot!!

Sorry about the late post. Got back in after working outside and found I had forgot to hit the "summit" key.

Well I need a break. Got the composter set up, pulled about a million weeds and I think a two million sprang right up behind the ones I pulled
rant.gif
, got the panels up for the additional grow-out/breeder pen. Found the hardware to make two more fence panels and a door from odds-n-ends laying around (will probably get those done tonight when it is cooler) and played with the chickens, llamas, turkeys, cats and pup. It seems like when I am working out side everyone has to come get in my business. Of course, according to the turkeys I never get it right.

So the plans for the weekend are expand the chicken yard, rearrange the young birds in the grow-out pens, get my bedroom cleaned (it is a mess), set the braces for the window unit, get a couple of feeders and a brooder made, organize our new tool cabinets and get the tools out of the kitchen
celebrate.gif
, get the parts to the other coop out and cleaned up so we can get it painted and assembled, play with the critters of course, trim llama toes
fl.gif
, clean the brooders and go to Blanchard Saturday night
ya.gif
. I think that is all planned.
hu.gif
Oh and load up the washer and dryers to take to the repair guys next week. I think I need a nap to get rested up for all the work that needs to be done.

I thought you'd probably have stopped buying by now or I'd have bid on some india blue peachicks for you at Maud. They only sold for $16 each. And then there was an egg laying peahen in the auction (she laid an egg there), but I don't know what she sold for because we left before she was sold. They also had 4 pea eggs which sold for around $7 or 8 each.
