Howdy Ya'll, Is this not the best sleeping weather?? I could have slept in but had to get up and come to work, I would much rather have stayed home and finished working on the new coop and pen while it is still nice out,(after I crawled outta bed that is) I decided not to bother with the 9'X12" shed it just has way too much rotted lumber and termite damage to get it moved intact just didn't think it would survive the effort. but, Oh Well I was gonna build the next one anyway LOL Today is my Friday 3 days off after I survive it and am really looking forward to getting new birds this Saturday,

I think it will take another cup of coffee or three to get woke up and motivated this morning

I guess I am the only one dumb enough to be homekeeping on a beautiful cool day like today...

At least my chickens and Children can enjoy the weather.. they couldnt wait to get their home school lessons done to be outside. They even doubled up most of their Thur and Fri work so they can enjoy tomorrow if its decent enough and not to hot...

Took some of my homework reading material out on the deck to enjoy the nice weather and got to watch a hummingbird and some dragonflies. Our neighbor appears to be down to a single guinea from the flock of seven she had when we moved out here. Her flock drove our flock away when we tried to let them free range, so now might be the time to get some more, before she decides to replace them. The bad thing is that I don't have anywhere to put them now that the guinea house is being transformed into the quail palace. Drat, drat, and drat.

Hello all - this weather is wonderful, isn't it? Let's start a petition to keep these temperatures for several months! I got 8 eggs today - the cuckoo Marans I got at POOPS from Poco Pollo just started laying - a nice dark egg - small for now but will get bigger. I didn't realize Maran's grew to be such big birds - the cuckoo and two blue pullets are all certainly looking nice and healthy! The two RIR pullets that originally came from Faerielady (I miss her on here!) are also growing into nice shiny birds.

Here's a funny - I live near the City vehicle fleet maintenance center for police, fire and city cars - and I regularly use the little road that runs by that facility. Anyhoo, Jack and I were driving down that little quarter mile road the other night at dusk, and he suddenly said "Duck!" Sure enough, there was a little duck standing on the side of the road. Two seconds later I hollered "Bunny!" because a young cottontail turned away from the road and dashed back into the tall grass. 10 yards further on we both shouted "Fireman!" because there was a firefighter jogging down the lane. Anyway, it was funny at the time.

(Jack asked if I wanted to go back and get the duck, and I said "Yes, of course I want it, but what would I do with a duck??")

It didn't take hours to catch up on posts tonight. I guess everyone out there is as busy as we have been now that kids are back in school.

City - Glad to hear your Marans are doing well. I sold a trio of Cuckoos to a lady last Saturday. I'm sure missing them.

I'm driving from Haskell to Elgin on Saturday morning. If anyone needs birds moved along that route, let me know Friday. I've been the happy recipient of birds transported by other BYC members, so I'm happy to return the favor.

Poco - I just noticed your GFM title - I like it

Yes, it is certainly amazing how we manage to move birds around Oklahoma on the BYC poultry transport system. I got the cages that FunChick took ducks to you, returned a few weeks ago when I delivered a pullet from Muesky to FunChick. Muesky brought pheasants from Cement to her house in E Norman, which was closer to me than Cement. It is all good.

Okay, I'm probably going to regret this because I really want to bid on this thing, but in the interest of sharing...

This Saturday at 9:00 is the regular almost-quarterly Bridges Farm and Ranch Equipment Auction, east of Elgin, west of Sterling on Hwy 17. Among the many interesting and useful items at this one is the below really really cool antique brooder:

Peaches, I know Hot Dog likes those John Deere toys, and this is just down the road from you, so I thought I would mention they are also auctioning these:

Buster - hope you are able to get that brooder for a reasonable price. It is really cool looking. I am guessing it uses kerosene for heat. My mom recalls that when she was young, (she is 84 now) they had an incubator that used kerosene for the heat source.
