I actually like spiders, although like you I prefer not to get the spider webs in my face or hair. Don't know what kind that is, but it sure is pretty.

Yep we got one next to the rabbits we leave it cause every morn it is plum full of mosquitos. I like them.

Shavon I agree with NN,I'd go with Ideal Hatchery, followed by Murray Mc Murray. If you want avariety they both have some good layer mixes. Both heavys and light breeds.Only problem I have with those is I start likeing all the different breeds and start trying to find more of them!lol. The light breeds are economicaly the best, they eat less, lay more but are sometimes more flighty.

All this talk of spiders is going to scare Teach away for good you guys!lol. I'm almost like him ,I don't like any of them either, but I will do away with them rather than send the little boys in to take care of them!lol Gottca Teach!

Well since it was brought up, I'll let our new folks know that we have been shut down a few times but never more than several hours. This is why we encourage folks to obey the rules and why Al and myself or a few other veterans may step in to say something if things are starting to slide in the wrong direction.
It has been quite a while since Moses has had to throw down the tablets and tear his robe!

I think I've caught up on reading posts from the past few days. I've been doing homework so my brain is about to drip out my ears. I was able to move the baby quail out into the Quail House yesterday after some cleaning and modification to one of the inside pens. I had to line the wire part of their brooder area with plastic mesh since the little snots kept popping out and trying to run off. They are definitely quick little things, well deserving of the nickname "Nasquail". Now the only animals I have left in the house are the fish, who are usually quiet, and the dogs, who supplement the burglar alarm. I decided to keep the little blond-haired animal in the house, even if he would rather live outside with "his" baby birds.

I use DE around all our beasts, to include rubbing the dogs down with it and dusting their pen. I've noticed a definite improvement in bug reduction. I bought a 50lb bag off of ebay for $55 with shipping and I know Amazon also carries them for a similar price. We live in the woods so I used to see all kinds of creepy tree roaches out in the quail coop, but they seem to have changed their mind about hanging out in there since I started using it. I know that they are not the same as house roaches, but they still bother me more than any other type of bug, even the tarantulas that I have also seen out there.

For those of you that have posted about garden spiders, there is on that builds it web on the porch right outside my son's window. Every morning when I go in to get him up, he points it out and says "Look! A spider!" like it's a big surprise. I don't know what he'll do when it decides to move on.

To michaeldaughtery(sp?) you are lucky to have such a talented and beautiful daughter! I wish more young women (and young men) could get into hobbies that are so healthy and fun.

I think my bag came from them as well, they just had it listed a couple of bucks cheaper at the time on their ebay listing vs. their online store. It came well packaged with the paper bag sealed up in a plastic one, and the whole thing in a cardboard box that the nice fedex man hauled up to the carport. It would be nice to find a local supplier and just pay for the product alone, but that's why I went for the big bag, much more cost effective when you factor in the shipping cost. I'll use it all up eventually anyway.

thanks carah! will check them in the morning

No problem, I will also add that DE is not the same as Stall dry. I had trouble with mite back in the spring & the permitherin really took care of it. I sprayed the first time then came back again in 10days for any hatching. I didn't dip them but did spray under each wing, back & vent area.

so you can use it as dip too... and repeat in ten days- now i didn't do that!

and will get DE rather than the stall dry....

i can see what i'm gonna be doing today.... should i dilute the bleach for the coop?

For those of you looking for food grade DE for your flock management, it is available from Red Earth Feed in OKC for about $30 for a 50 lb bag. They don't deliver to your prch like an omline store, but with a few days notice, I am willing to go by there on my way home from work, get a bag or three and bring it to an auction we are both atending. Guess that makes me a DE enabler also.
