Sure works good in there too, kill's any fly egg's that may be layed and it kill's fly's instantly. Tell Shawn he can mix 10 gal's of spray from just one pint of P-10, I do dillute it slightly more if used just as a fly spray on horses mainly because you handle the horse more.

I will have to tell him that today when he gets home. Our palamino is always got bites, you know those light colors.

Man where's the coffee?

It's raining here, I guess no concreet......that is really gonna mess me up.

No problem, I will also add that DE is not the same as Stall dry. I had trouble with mite back in the spring & the permitherin really took care of it. I sprayed the first time then came back again in 10days for any hatching. I didn't dip them but did spray under each wing, back & vent area.

so you can use it as dip too... and repeat in ten days- now i didn't do that!

and will get DE rather than the stall dry....

i can see what i'm gonna be doing today.... should i dilute the bleach for the coop?

Robin : When it comes to the bleach my deal is a little different as all my coop floors are concrete and sharing a common drain tube, so I use a seperate sprayer and just spray the bleach on the walls then hose it down with water, it foams up and swish it around with a bristle broom then hose rinse well, that way I can get every nook and cranny clean and treated. Every spring after one of these cleanings and it dries well in a few hours I load up the airless sprayer and spray a new coat of paint inside and out. I allways have at least 25-30 gallons of paint left over from the last season of job's so I mix it all together and whatever color it comes out to be is the color it will be LOL. It takes me about an hour to totally paint the inside and outside and everything get's a good coat and it dry's in an hour. But nothing can replace the feeling that there is no way I will have any pest or diseases hanging around and it all looks so good. That's why I spend so much time out there because it's so fun to work out there, not to mention I have a radio and a fridge filled with Libations in the equipment area as well LOL.

Also when I refill all my different feed barrels and mix all my own feed concoctions I sprinkle DE in all of them as I fill them and mix it in well, this ensures the birds get a small amount of DE every time they eat and it keeps the feed from clumping and any bug's away.

Yeah those pesky horse fly's really suck when they bite, tell him the spray will drop those big ones on contact.

Early and tearfull morning around here. Had to rush little Izzy(taco dog) to the vet this morning. She was real sick yesterday and worse this morning. Verdict is parvo! And she has had all her shots! And of course you have to get the third degree from the vet people because you give your own shots like its a disgusting federal crime. They make you feel like you personaly made your dog sick. Well I'm sorry but When you are on a fixed income you just can't afford the vets prices, especially when they only give part of a dose at a time so you have to keep comming back. Besides my wife with forty years nursing experience knows more about giving shots and meds than most of those preppy techs who haven't even be to school! Okay sorry for the rant. Anyway it would have cost $5-6 hundred to put her in the hospital or they would send the meds home and we could do it for $200. Not much decision making there! So hopefully we are going to be on the road to recovery, but are still at a dangerous point yet. She is so heartbreaking when she she looks at you with those big eyes like"make it stop hurting". makes even the big boy tear-up.

Go to a feed store and by the cattle drench....it is a thick brown liquid that smells like minerals. It is vitamins and minerals basically. Give her 3 doses a day. It save 5 dogs that I know of that were all but dead from parvo. It works....also you might have to force feed izzy with a dropper...chicken broth every hour. Dehydration is what kills a dog with parvo. The dogs hate the taste of drench so you will have to squirt it in their mouth and make them swallow it......THIS WORKS I SwEAR by it....saved 2 of my own dogs this way.

I can testify to P&B's wide range of enable-tude. She got me some food grade DE the first time I met her, and I am now thinking more and more about bees....

Also, even though I know you realize this - please remember to get the FOOD GRADE Diatomaceous Earth - lots of garden centers carry the other kind, but it is not suitable for use with the chickens, so be certain to get food grade.

Hey Ivy - just saw your question about DE - here is a thread with some great info - it is very useful! There are tons of threads about it on BYC - here is just one: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=46240

Congratulations
Macy! Wow - all of your birds placed high - great job!

Thanks Al for the lesson on how to treat for mites. I have so many Word files I've copied and pasted from so many of you wonderful, knowledgeable Okies on poultry husbandry.

My dad had back surgery last week. I've talked to him a couple of times and I he is in pain and will be out of commission for a while - please say a little prayer for Herb Bridgewater if you remember - thanks!

Shavon - I like Ideal Hatchery too. My folks get their chickens from Cackle Hatchery in Missouri.

Doodle! So sorry about Izzy - I hope she gets better soon.

Well P & B won't ever get me to carry bees although I would love too, but I found out this summer I'm allergic to wasps and they warned me not to get stung by anything that has a stinger in the future....Have to carry an EPI pen now. Never had a problem with these critters before this year but voila now I do. Thanks for the info on the DE!
