Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of chickens will stand outside in bad weather rather than go inside - unless it is dusk and time for them to go inside anyway.

So how is that going, MMP? Are sales pretty good? And what are you charging for your birds? Did you stick with $2 a pound? I assume you are raising Cornish X?

My Freedom Rangers are growing out nicely, and I will be starting up at the farmers market next Saturday, taking orders for delivery in the middle of October. Will also be selling some of my turkeys for Thanksgiving.

BarnSwallow - Sorry to hear your black Ameraucanas didn't make it. The six I bought from you are in excellent health, except for the smallest little girl, who has a runny nose. She is in a quarantine cage by herself, drinking medicated water and getting extra greens and some yogurt. She developed her runny nose after our last rain. She stood in it, rather than running into the coop with her sisters.

City - Wow! A big first egg! That's super neat. I got an enormous first egg from a Welsummer once, and it was a double yolked egg.

Donnie - Amazing Lavender Orps. What beautiful birds. Congrats on your new flock members.

Jeannie : You guy's seemed to have lost an awful lot of birds for no reason this year, I did notice you were looking to get some X's to raise for the freezer. They are even harder to keep alive and well to process time, do you have a plan at least to not lose any, they need special care and attention and mostly housing, they can't be left to their own devices, these birds eat a ton of feed so if you lose one it really dent's the wallet.

Hey Jim : So what kinda plan do you have going at that new Lawton farmers market for your freedom rangers ??. How are they coming #'s please, I was hoping to see how your's were coming along. How much you asking for them at the market ??.

My first batch went for 2.00 per lbs But this batch went for 3.25 per lbs + 1.50 for processing and yes cornish x. my 6 pounders brought $17.75 I believe.

Michael - do people eat land and pond turtles? We lived on an island in the Pacific when I was a kid. We often ate sea turtles. They were really fatty, but boy did they taste good. My dad had a hard time getting past the green meat. Mom made soup and steaks from sea turtles. Sea turtles are a lot bigger than the turtles we have in our pond. How many turtles would it take to feed a family of 4?
