Okies in the BYC The Original

Hey Donnie - Thanks for the kind words. I was thinking about you today when I went to the Brushy Mountain auction in Sallisaw. It's not too far from your place. I sold a big Delaware cockerel for ten and a couple of partridge rock pullets for six each. I think the buyers and the sellers were both happy today. I also got an amazing pair of banties. There weren't many people interested in banties today, so most got pulled out, except for some pairs of these. I got my pair for five dollars. Somebody tell me what I got. I just love them.

I passed on some old cages but bought a big cage that's in great condition. My final purchase was a trio of gold laced Wyandottes. When loading them I noticed that one of the hens complained at being picked up, and I found what appears to be a healing chest and neck injury, maybe dog bite or some other carnivore bite. Since there wasn't any sign of infection, I put her in my travel cage and headed home. I've washed her wounds with betadine and sprayed the area with blue kote. If anyone has advice about antibiotics please post. I want this little girl to make it. Her coloring is excellent, and she's got a sweet personality.

Nobody had hatching eggs. I'm glad I wasn't tempted.

Sounds like you did good today PoCo! The bantams are BB Red Old English.Gold laced wyandottes are one of my favorites. They make beautiful birds.

I did pretty well at the auction today even tho the crowd was small for some reason. I ended up buying an arucana roo which was kind of silly since I culled my old roo out and several young ones and kept some for next year. But he was only a doloar and has a nice aracuna look about him so I figured new blood wouldn't hurt. Also got a nice little black and white mottle hen, proably old english . I am just a sucker for mottled birds, and she was only two dollars.Bid on a few other birds but luckly I didn't get them,I was supposed to be cutting back!lol. But I am very sastified with what I have left and its plenty to start with next spring. I really need to come up with a good incubator this winter!

Found out the next Amish sale is the 23. So I am looking forward to that. It is the really big one. Then at the end of the month is the national young bird show in Louisville Ky for pigeons. The birds are going to keep me running for a while.

Yep, I agree with Okiedoodledoo, you have a pair of bb red OEGB. They look like a nice young pair. Bantam prices have really tanked lately, or so I hear.

I haven't been able to go to any auctions lately ... too much overtime lately. In fact, I'm stuck at work right now until 2 am and get to repeat this again for overtime tomorrow. Fortunately, Monday is a holiday for me, so I get one day off from work in the past 3 weeks.

Luckily, my DH has taken birds & eggs to the last couple of auctions and he calls me to let me know what's going on. He claims that Maribeth once again bought most of our hatching eggs.

Donnie - I may see you there in the future. Kenny is easy for me to understand, and he kept things going but didn't rush. The regulars were happy to talk chickens, so I felt like I was in the right place. I got a chance to meet another BYCr, BanjoJo. He and another guy did an awesome job showing the birds during the auction. Next time I go I'll get there earlier so I can shake hands and take names.

ok kool , well i hope to see you there sometime , congrats on the good find im sure there is more to come , who was banjojo , ive wore my poops shirt there but noone has said anything so i figured none of them were on here but who knows they may have just not of been there at that time

Joe is banjoejoe4783, I think. I'm waiting for him to message me back so I know I've thanked the right person for helping me pick my banties today. I don't know if he has ever posted on the Okies in the BYC thread. He knows his breeds and helped a lot of folks before, during, and after the auction. I told him I was Poco on the BYC and invited him to visit the Okies thread.

yeah that would be the same guy , and i told him about this site and he acted like he didnt know about it , but i have had a few conversations with him about some birds as well, ive been trying to get new people to join in on this forum too , i belive he lives in stilwell ,

Couldn't say where he's from. Since he was helping during the auction I figured he was connected to Kenny somehow. The pillow's calling, so I'm signing off for tonight. Best wishes for your hatching plans.

Ya know you are a poultry & Fowl addict when

You see how they layout their duck ponds and you snap shots to get idea for your own

You take more pictures of the cool looking ducks, turkeys, rabbits than of the exotic animals you paid to go see...

You are able to properly identify certain fowl better than the zoo keepers

You shake your head when you notice they have the turkey and Deer exhibit next to coyote pens... and you tell them thats animal cruelty

You all have a wonderful sunday..... GOOD NIGHT
