Just got in from the Blanchard auction and have discovered a new constant in the universe,
Attend the Blanchard auction, Get pulled over on the way home for the busted headlight that I never get pulled over for any other time LOL and no ticket again thank goodness I really need to get that fixed :)
It was good to see all the BYC Folks and nice to meet the ones I haven't met before
I did pretty well with the stuff I sold despite the late lot number thanks to Jerry not leaving me stuck at the very end and some very kind BYC'ers, the feeders did well I have a few more of them and if I can make Fletcher next week I may bring them there just not sure if I can make it yet although I really did enjoy the last one and want to go.
Maribeth thanks for the honey and Gerald thanks for the peppers and okra I cleaned up in the end and rescued some more LOL

Yep, I agree with Okiedoodledoo, you have a pair of bb red OEGB. They look like a nice young pair. Bantam prices have really tanked lately, or so I hear.

I haven't been able to go to any auctions lately ... too much overtime lately. In fact, I'm stuck at work right now until 2 am and get to repeat this again for overtime tomorrow. Fortunately, Monday is a holiday for me, so I get one day off from work in the past 3 weeks.

Luckily, my DH has taken birds & eggs to the last couple of auctions and he calls me to let me know what's going on. He claims that Maribeth once again bought most of our hatching eggs.

I can't pass up great eggs of varieties I want to hatch, when they are selling so inexpensively - and I know that they are from your NPIP flock that has such a high hatchability rate.

In fact, my final bid on several of your varieties was below the PO price, which I was more than happy to meet. I was really excited when I realized that the eggs I bought as "cold eggs" had your markings on them and that they are of a date that is likely to hatch.

I really paid an embarrasingly low amount for those.

I am going to have to candle the eggs I bought at the Newcastle auction last week - I ended up putting all 5 dozen "cold" eggs from your hens into the incubatore, along with the "hatching" eggs I bought from you and 5 dozen guinea eggs, so it is almost full. I haven't turned off the Hovabator that I like to use for hatching, since it has a clear top - so 3.5 dozen can go into that incubator. I hope I don't have to do temperature checks on any additional Hovabators in order to get all the eggs into an incubator, but I will if necessary.

Good morning Okies, looks like I missed a rather busy day! P&B what were you doing up at 4AM??? I will be here Tuesday night at 8 pm & hope we have lots going for old times.

We went to the fair yesterday & didn't get home till midnight. I had a good time but I was sure tired & ready to come home long before the kids. I will have to work extra hard to stay awake this morning at church. We leave as soon as it lets out to a soccer game in Claremore! It's going to be a long day because I have to stop somewhere & find some surface mount exterior lights that I like.

Morning everbody, Had a fun time at the Blanchard auction last. My wife loves the 2 black Frizzles (I owe you won MIke D.) that I picked up for her and the &.75 red Banty cochin rooster matches the color of my red frizzle hen perfectly.

I might try to make it to Fletcher next time. MY wife drag my wife along.

Everbody in the house lllOOOOOOves the honey I bought last, think'n that I should bough the bigger jar now.

See ya guys later.

Tuesday 8:00pm sounds great, count me in. Now if that crazy Teach can make it then all heck will break loose LOL. Good time at Blanchard as usual I wanted to buy a dozen laying Hens but they were going for prices so high it seemed like the buyers thought they would lay golden eggs. I only bought some meanial things that I probably don't need, except a few bundles of old Poultry press newspapers that Michael graciously offered, they read well in the bathroom hehehehehe and they are very informative. I still have a big day of chores and hope to get them handled soon so I can grill some food and watch a football game or two.

One of these days I'm going to make it to Blanchard. I love hearing about it, and I always feel like I've missed a party or a reunion. Checked my quarantine pens early this morning and was happy to see that everyone was already up, eating and drinking. My new little BB Red OEGB Roo crowed a Hello and I nearly fell over laughing. What a sweetie. His little miss took some scrambled egg from my hand, so I think they're going to tame very quickly.

I'm planning a Banty coop but probably won't be able to build it until next weekend. Until then, they have a nice grow out pen as their quarantine area. I put a little dog carrier in as their house, filled with shavings. It's a hoot watching them go in and out. The Roo hops in with both feet, but the hen steps in like she's afraid to get dirt on the rug.

Bought a scythe to mow areas of the pasture that need cleaning up. I used it yesterday (unskillfully... boy do I need to practice--I bought a book and now I know I really, really need to read it) and took all the dry pasture grass to the largest pen. The chickens picked through it, eating seeds and talking up a storm. I will try to do the same for the rest of the pens this week. I think there's a lot of food left on the grass that's still out there. I picked out the weedy bits but I think I'll leave them in next time. Whatever they don't eat will build up on the floor of the pen making some rich soil. When I get all the pens moved to the new barn area I may fence off my old pen spaces and use them for garden patches next year.

Marybeth : Laura thanks you so much for the Honey, she was down to her last tsp, she has started cooking more with the honey instead of sugar and likes the results, I got the idea from Rebecca who is doing the same thing, so we are using much more honey.
